New ampeg speculation - A true B15 Reissue?

Agree Jimmy. Plus a stacked B15 just looks cool!

I think the 4ohms is great if you just have one cab, but then you're limited to not being able to run a "stack" unless you swap out speakers which is kinda pointless with one of these.

I would have to agree with Jimmy in regards to the 50 units. First off, the originals are readily available and, based on the speculated cost of the RI, less than half the price. You really don't hear about any QC issues with the 60's B15's. As far as studio use, I would imagine that any studio that wanted the B15n tone already has an original---and every rock star knows that 'vintage' gear is the hot new technology to have. Also, the schematics are easily available and anyone wanting to spend boutique money could have had one made by their builder of choice. They wouldn't be any less genuine 'Ampeg' just because they don't have the LOUD/Ampeg badge.

I think it's great that Ampeg is offereing 'true to the original' amps, but I'm not sure how well these will sell. I would say that a reissue of the Baby Bass would be a smarter move. The originals are fetching $2500, so people are looking for alternatives. Every salsa bassist wants one, and while it is a 'niche' market, so is that of a $2800 30 watt combo.

Not sure if I missed this previously, but will the speaker be 4 or 8 ohm? When Jess re-coned my B-15, he did it at 4 ohms like the B-100R. If it will be an 8 ohm speaker, are there plans for a stackable extension cabinet, or would that need to be a call to Mark? ;)

No current plans for an extension cab.

I knew you were gonna ask that. ;)

These 50 units are going to be available in the US. They are all set up at 120V.

They do, however, have universal transformers with 100,120,220 and 240V taps.

Since this limited run we wanted to keep things nearby and offer the warranty service for the first 50 units thru the factory (Metro) rather than a Service Center.

If the demand is there to continue production in 2011 we are already prepared with a universal power transformer.

*BTW, the Heritage B-15 does use old-school leaded solder

Great, thanks !

i guess i understand not doing an extension cab at this time. most folks use these for recording or at-home rocking out, and an extension cab isn't necessary for that. but i gig my 64 all the time with an extension cab and it flat out kills.

all they'd have to do is use an 8 ohm tap on the output tranny for the internal speaker, and a 4 ohm tap (switched) to run two. i would hope that they did it this way.

A stack is a very nice way to go with the B-15. I sometimes run mine with an EV SH-1502 on the bottom. Not as nice as a second double baffle cab.

By not offering an extension cab, they are leaving a market niche open for others. Which is a nice thing to do ;) .

it will be if they let him have the tolex and speaker so it matches.

Let me tell you .. they have their ears to the ground.. especially with you. They know you on TB.. you are famous with them... Im not kidding....

lol! forget my wife...i'm marrying YOU, kirk!

:D

I had an epiphany this morning... being a constant victim of G.A.S. isn't necessarily a bad thing for me in this situation. If the price is "within reason" (purely subjective, I know... we've already hashed that out ;)) and I can get one of the 49 left after they send one to Jimmy :D, I want the B-15 enough to actually sell gear to pay for it. *gasp!*

I'm already going through my pedals deciding what I can sell off. Even at just a glance, I've got 8 pedals on the block and I'm actually contemplating about getting rid of a bass!!!!

5sg.
