New Ampeg Venture Series

Well everything you mentioned is an option, but if you like the sound of your gain in the red, it won’t hurt anything. It might make the DI super loud, but I haven’t experimented with the DI yet to know for sure.

I, however, would want the SVT switch on all the time and the SGT with the drive all the way down if you use the gain cranked and run through the DI. Tweeter frequencies and dirt is a solid “no bueno” for me.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll have to mess around with it a bit more to see if I can find a grit level I’m happy with.

Hi all-

I'm curious- what are folks using a case for your Venture head? I picked up a V12 recently and I love it. I'm using an old Mono bag for it right now, and I looked at the Ampeg bag, but I feel like a hard case might be a better option, something like this: SKB 3i-1813-5B-C iSeries 1813-5 Waterproof Case with Cubed Foam.

Sorry of this has been covered before or is better elsewhere, I'm not seeming to find much discussion currently.

Thanks
Ken

A hard case with foam is very good as long as you make some cutouts around the knobs of the amplifier to avoid putting pressure on them.

I use a laptop bag. Not like I slam it around or anything.

I use the Ampeg bag (and like it), but like Jimmy, I am transporting it in my personal vehicle, packed with some care, so it's not exposed to much risk of damage. Back when we were "touring" in a (converted camper) band van, and stuffing PA, rigs, instruments, everything in the back, I probably would have opted for a hard case.

Anyone here experienced mixing the VB-210 cabinet with the VB-410 as a 6x10 stack?
I have no experience with them, but stacking a 210 (8ohm) and a 410 (8ohm) is not something I would consider doing. If the Venture 410 came in a 4ohm version, which it doesn't, that would make a nice 610, provided the amp is capable of 2.67ohm load.

I ended up trying the setup actually at a local Guitar Center and wasn’t satisfied with the end result. It made me want to pair the 410 with another 410. Same with the 210. Bummer cause I’m all for modular stacks but they both didn’t present itself too well

Don’t have a V12, but I’ve got a few other 'small' heads - including an old Ampeg Portaflex PF-500 about the same footprint, just carries extra weight like a grudge.

What I run isn't fancy - $25 laptop bags from Goodwill. I cut up some yoga mat, half-inch to an inch, make myself a little amp sandwich with a pad up front to keep the knobs from getting kicked in. Then I toss it in the back of the crossover with the cabs, gig bag, and a spare head.

Not pretty, but it shows up intact and ready to work - that’s the part that matters.

I don't have a Venture, but I use a Pelican iM2620 with other small heads. It's about the size of an airport carry on bag, and it has wheels and a telescoping handle.

I section it into two sections, one stores the amp, and the other holds a small pedalboard (Pedaltrain Jr), cables, a strap, or whatever else I want to stick in it.

If you don't use a pedalboard, I'd recommend something smaller.

How loud can a single VB-210 get? Is it loud enough to keep up with a rock band? For comparison, I have a pair of SVT-210AV cabs, and a single one on its own is not enough for the situations I play in. I just picked up a Markbass MB58R 102 energy and it is plenty loud, but I'm not sure if it's what I really want in terms of the way it sounds.

I'm not sure if anyone cares, but I figured I'd share in case someone does- Today I learned that Ampeg Venture cabinet covers are made by Gator. (This is the box it shipped in from the candy shop.)

Share your thoughts on the VB 210 cab? Thx!
I love it, but I'm just a hobbiest that jams with friends sometimes, not gigging. I haven't been playing very long.

It's probably more cab than I need honestly- when I got it I was shopping for a 112, but someone was selling this 210 used locally at a very fair price that I couldn't let pass by.

I'm sure there are more experienced players in this thread that have given their opinions.

Ya know, I have read this whole thread and while there are certainly some people sharing their direct impressions of the cabs, I find so much of this thread consists of talking around and speculating about the Venture product line, especially the whole wattage matching issue (overblown) and the master volume taper issue (widely misunderstood) and not an abundance of different firsthand impressions of the cabinets in particular. I think it’s unavoidable to conclude the cabs have not sold in numbers Ampeg/Yamaha would have hoped for, resulting in less chatter, fewer online reviews, etc. So, regardless, thanks for sharing!
