New Arrival - Roscoe Century Standard Plus 6 J (Koa/BEM)

I really wish that this one had stayed under the radar for a bit longer but it does deserve to be played by someone.

I suppose that it sells before my Elrick 6 does I can always do a new build. Those are fun too!

And a new build only takes a 10% deposit to get it going. That could improve the timing so that you receive the new Roscoe around the time you sell the Elrick... just sayin'. :D

Roscoe is trying to get Ryan's new order done in time for the GTG in June. I'm not sure how much longer the window for that to happen stays open for new orders, but it's probably not much longer. Eventually, it just won't be physically possible to get it done in time. Not to add a sense of urgency or anything... well OK, yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing. Sorry! :rollno::D:D:D

Still debating the bass purchase.
Hoping to try Ryan's this weekend.

Steve, you can absolutely try mine on Saturday. I am thinking 2pm would work best for me, but I will pm you when I get home tonite to confirm that, and give you directions to my place and my number.

All I have at home for an amp is an Ampeg BA110. (my Eden rig is technically there, too, but it's in the trailer with the PA). You are more than welcome to bring your own amp if you like.

Sounds good, Ryan. Thanks. I'm sure the BA110 is fine. I use a GB Shuttle 110 so close enough. Just let me know.

The more that I think it through the better this idea sounds. That would also give me a chance to change a few things (p/u's and fingerboard) that I prefer.
What are the limitations these days on finger board choice's for the Standard Plus models? Also, any chance of getting any wenge in the neck?

Hey, Joe! You can get Wenge for the fretboard on the plus models, but the neck itself would be three piece maple.

Well, just finished playing Ryan's Century basses. Thanks again, Ryan. He had everything all set and ready to go. Just like an appointment at a fancy shop.

I definitely prefer the jazz pups. Not just a "jazz on steroids" either. Still Roscoe but with that "thing" - whatever it is - I like from a jazz bass.

The Century body style is really nice. That extra length on the upper horn really makes a difference in how it hangs.

Even though these were 5 strings, I kind I got a feel for the 6 string neck as Ryan has 20 mm spacing.

Im told the mahogany body will be a little more mellow than the ash I tried, but I can live with that I think. The BEM board might add some brightness back so maybe it'll balance out.

Might have to part with some money next week...

It was my pleasure, Steve. I enjoyed having someone stop by that I could actually "talk bass" with!

And yeah, in Steve's hands, the J pickups really sounded perfect. I think this 6 string would be the ticket for what you are looking for.

I actually went and played an Ibanez 6-string last night just for reference (I have almost zero time on 6-strings and have never owned one). It was pretty fun, but I find the string spacing a bit tight (16.5mm I believe). Having the hi-C (which I've never had) was fun.

Still not sure I want to confuse my brain since I'm knee-deep in a complete retooling of my playing and am totally focused on 4-string patterns for now. It sounds like Steve will be all over this anyway :D

Ibanez is a bit tight. I believe the Roscoe is around 18.5 mm at the bridge. Just about right.

I, too, have been thinking that a 4 ( my Geddy to be precise) would be my "forever" - as my wife calls it - bass. Not sure what a 6 will do to me, but I think I'm willing to give a try again. Even though I'm not actively gigging, I enjoy "playing along" with things like Yelllowjackets and I have been curious about chording, that Todd Johnson book "Fishing for Grips" and just having extended range for jazz soloing. Like Ryan said today as we talked, if you have a 6 you'll probably work it in your playing. Not much different than when I made myself play a 4 for the last year and a half or so. I got by without a B string just fine.

Playing Ryan's today again reminded me how sweet they play, how great the neck is, how great the B string is, and how nice they look. I'm feeling a purchase coming on.
