This song just took the #1 Winner spot on www.OurStage.com on their Jazz channel.

I played the Prescott piz w/ the rythm section and then did the arco part on an overdub.

When this was recorded I had not owned the bass for that long, so I didn't know what to tell the engineer about its best possible mic placement sweet spots. I think he got a good sound though.

We just drove across Ohio and half of Pensylvania today with little Vincent. My van is far to full of baby stuff. Thank god for DVD and LCD's. We are now parked in Hershey for a couple days of chocolate extended family fun.

It occurred to me somewhere on the turnpike during the wife/baby naptime, while I was trying to burn some miles with a full bladder, that if I could have talked all my bandmates into wearing diapers years ago when we were on the road in the van we could have just pissed ourselves stupid, never stopped, and arrived ahead of schedule more often then not.

Catering is much better when it's not cold.

Diapers for bands. Hmmnnn....

No basses yet.

900 miles on the Van since Friday.

Damn gas is stupid money right now.

Couldn't get into see Shanks. They were only open for 6 hours Saturday and I had family duties I couldn't break away from. Thought perhaps they'd have some time before we left the area on Tues morning but I guess not.

Regardless, Ken Smith's was a blast. I can't believe all the wood.

Ken has great wood.

Fabulous cat. Spews out information so fast I'm still sorting out what I soaked up. Bastard can play the bass too!

Those basses are top notch. More on that later....

Now into the NJ/NY swing. Lots o basses to check out.

What a gas.

Never saw the Prescott. It sold a while back.

The gasoline bill is sickening. I'm trying not to think about it.

Kolsteins today.

Man has he got a lotta basses. A veritable bass orgy.

Played so much stuff my head is spinning. Kolstein is a good guy, very cordial and attentive.

Had help from Brian Glassman and David Weiner that was indispensable. We played and discussed and played some more and hauled basses in and out of racks. It would have been overwhelming otherwise. It's flattering to have so much interest in this process with folks taking time out of otherwise busy lives to do this with me.

Like playing expensive well made basses is some sort of chore...

Took some pics I'll post later.

I've got lots of thoughts that I'll share when the whole thing is done.

Hi , (sorry for my english), i'm a jazz bassist from Europe making a bas tour in USA (well New York area) after having; solded my 1889 Martini Costante bass ;So i also 'm looking for the "perfect" jazz bass(maybe almost perfect)
yesterday i played the Scottie's Prescott...., not a big bass, clear,easy to play and extremely fast and responsive, at the first note you hear a vibe that reminds you La Faro's sound ( also if it has Weich strings on it now) a very special bass,
and not only:
Milt Hinton bass was there, and the most incredible bass i have ever played: Percy Heat 'sRuggeri (or Roggeri ?) bass. This bass has a sound that i would describe as dark, fat but very fast (these two qualities are very difficult to have on the same bass) like a thunderous boom...
Barrie has an incredible collection of basses, and i tried them all (maybe 80 basses) and incredible but truth during the last week i tried all at Gage, Aes Basses, Bill Merchant and Geoff Morrow.
I have to say that all the people that i have met were absolutely fine with me (Barrie at Kolstein, Arnold Schnitzer at AES, Bill and Geoff), all of them were very attentive to my needs and let me play whatever i wanted without pression
Well, about 300 basses went under my fingers in those last days, and as you can imagine it is not easy to choose....so at the moment the choice is reduced at 4 basses..if you are interested i can give report my thoughts about ...

Yes I'd like that very much. I'm interested especially in what you narrowed your choice to.

...I can't believe I didn't run into you there Weds. We were all over the place making a big old mess of basses...

Uncletoad, i was at Kolstein shop Tuesday...,but if you are in NYC we can go to drink a beer together, just write me an email...
i also prefer to wait a little before writing some opinions, i'm still in the process of trying basses and have tons of information to absorb in a small amount of time, so...patience
