New Bergantino cabs!!!!!!!!!

DMB said:
Was there ever an answer for why Jim is constantly discontinuing really sweet cabs?

Sure. It's his company, and he's allowed to do what he wants to. :D

Really, though, it probably boils down to a couple of things. First off, despite the clamour from the lucky few, the NV cabs never really sold like hotcakes. So, despite their uber-pwndness, Jim stopped making them. With regard to the original HT210, Jim responded to people who wanted a more compact model, and came out with the HT210s. I can tell you that he is not giving up on 2x10's, and has some killer ideas in the works. :ninja:

Another factor is that the IP cabs have been selling really, really well, and Jim is focusing on keeping up with demand for the IPs (and the HT112/EX112, which has always been a strong seller).

Jim pretty much never offers a goose egg when it comes to his products, so even when he has good reasons to discontinue one model and move on, it seems like he is abandoning something great (which he is, of course, and which is why I am such a Berg horder! :D).

Tom.

I've been thinking more and more about a 15 recently...hungering for more 'girth' to my sound. While I love my 1212, I'm thinking I'd like to use it in the place of a 210 along with a 15. I see that the HT115 is no longer listed on the Bergantino website...so I guess it's just keeping a lookout for a used one?

Can anyone give me real world specs on this cab to see if it is even in the running for me? I'd either use it alone or pair it with my 8ohm 1212. Is this worth thinking about?

The HT115 was "delisted" some time ago. Tonally, it goes deeper than its specs would lead you to believe (Jim is notoriously conservative on his specs, IME/IMHO), and it is a very tight, very clear cab, but it's certainly not thin at all. One makes for a very good stand alone cab, and two (or one paired with a good 2x10) is an excellent high volume rig. Again, IME/IMHO.

Tom, thanks for your input.

You may or may not remember that I play in a reggae band. I've been hungering for a fuller, fatter low end sound lately. While I've always liked my 1212 for audibility on stage, I struggle with wanting more low end to give me the 'boom' I need for that type of music. I'd like a cab that could work as a stand alone, or that I could use my 1212 (like a 2x10) on top of for bigger gigs.

My bottom line is low, loud, and clear but defined.(Dingwall AB, 400+, etc, and I strip out most of the frequencies above 500hz anyway!).

Sound like a match?

Ideally, I'd say an NV215, or perhaps Accugroove El Whappo or Whappo, Jr. But the HT115, for its size, especially, should do well in this regard. While it certainly can do the tight, clear, full-range thing, if you wanted to roll off the highs, fatten up lows, and dub it out, I think it'd do pretty well.

Cool. I really can't justify one of the Whappos right now in terms of cost or transportability. I have the back seat of a Nissan Maxima to work with, and a second floor walk up for storage! There may be a decent deal on an HT115 on the horizion (I hope) though...

...you would be *very* happy with an IP...

Cool. I believe I'll have one next week sometime. :)

I love TB.

I'm very much looking forward to it!

Booyah! You are gonna love it! If you have any questions or concerns regarding how to coerce whatever sound you want outta that bad boy, feel free to PM me. Just be prepared to reset your expectations of how "bass cabs" sound. :D

+1. After playing through a few IPs at Tom's place earlier this year, I'm just not quite happy with how anything else sounds any more.

Thanks Tom.

Someone who read this thread while you and I were going back and forth PM'd me about his cab(that afternoon)...and it looks like its to be a solid thing. Asking price was exactly what I was looking to pay, and his commentary along with yours suggested it might be just what I'm looking for. I'm really excited to try this out.

I really do love my 1212, and it worked great for a rock gig I goofed with this past year, but in the reggae context the 1212 doesn't have enough below the low mids to anchor the 10-12 member reggae band onstage. Especially on nights when we're running a small PA with no reinforcement for the bass. I've been on the fence about a 15 since I'm basically lazy and the less extra gear I have to move, the happier I am, but these days I've been carrying an extra 112 to beef up my sound a bit anyway, and the HT115 doesn't look to be much bigger!

I'd also like to say that TB is a wonderful place. I've had more good dealings with super nice people in the years I've posted here. Not to mention that the REAL gear sales/trades etc. don't seem to happen in the classifieds. I've now bought things from 4 or 5 TBers and they've all been PM deals with good folks. Each deal has been fast and clean.
