New Bergantino Neo Line; Pt. 2

A true gig-bag sized amp that I could use in small acoustic settings, rehearsals, and carry as a back up to a tube amp. I had a GK MB200 at first, but did not like it, and went with the TH350 instead. I never had much intention of using for regular gigging - just something to get me through a gig in a pinch.

Well, I decided to use it on a gig with my full rock band, and dang if I wasn't impressed. We are a 5 piece band... keys, two guits, drums. The guits play amps in the 25 - 30 watt range, so nothing insane, but man the 350 really kicks with the CN.

On a full band gig, I was running my passive jazz with the gain about 9:00 and the master about 12:00. Headroom to spare. Very impressive little amp. I like the tone so much, I am considering a TH500, but wondering if I really need it.

Just curious what you find better about the TH350 over the GK MB200......curious.

Well, I think for starters, the TH is just more up my ally as far as tone. Not really a fan of the GK sound in general. I have played a few different amps, usually in back lines, and just never dug them that much. I thought the scoop switch was just too much of a scoop to be usable, and I just thought the MB200 was a little anemic.

The TH is just way more substantial. It feels like it has some big power behind it. Not to insult any MB200 users, but I kind of put the amps in two different categories. I wouldn't take the MB200 to a full band gig.

Going in a different direction and will post my CN212 on the board in a bit. Was at Bass San Diego today, decided that the HD Series is whats in my heart and the sound thats in my head. But the HD212 is too heavy for my messed up back, so I'll be open to trades and one possible scenario is two HD112's. Just FYI here in Berg land.

If we all had KJung's taste in cabs (as educated and refined as it is), Jim wouldn't make the HD series. You are forgiven. ;)

I just played my TH500 through a berg nv610 this afternoon (and a WW Ultra). Very nice sounding cab indeed that NV! It was a brief audition, and not a realistic setting for 'testing' a cab of that magnitude. But, it was obvious to me after the first few notes what people are talking about regarding the NV's. That punch is something.. wow. And, that the TH500 yet again proves it sounds good through pretty much anything ;)

If thr NV was mint and tolexed... It would probably be sitting in the back of my truck right now! in other words... I didn't buy it. :(

:D Luckily, I do like the more midrange presence of the CN's better (the weight is just a bonus), but that more open tone and smoother top end of the HD line sounds great for some for sure!:p Makes sense that those who dig the AE212 over the CN212 like Doug would find the wider, smoother HD more to their liking!

Before buying my CN212, I compared the CN212 directly, side-by-side to an HD212. I totally understand those who prefer the HD212. Or pair of HD112's. Definitely no loser there. Just a different flavor. This is a case where I'd have to hear both 'in the band mix' to form a final conclusion. Alone in a room, I might have chosen the HD over CN. It sounded a bit sweeter and perhaps even a little more punch. But the weight killed any consideration for me as well.

And for me, I LOVE how the CN212 performs "in the band mix".

I had been reading this thread because I was looking for a nice small cab for the LB-30 I got recently off the classifieds here. I tried a bunch of cabs and the CN112 turned out to exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for all the info!

ditto on the "more punch" and after listening about 25 feet away while Munji played a UV70, I was hearing a solidity and focus around the fundamental that seems to be MIA in most neo loaded cabs. But the CN212 has a nice upper midrange bump that sounds like a 6" mid is in the mix, which makes this 212 cab cut really well. Still trying to decide if I can live with the compromise.

Maybe a CN/HD stack would work.

A little update from my little slice of the world... ;)

So far I've run my Pbass, Jazz and Stingray through my CN rig and it's sounded killer every time. (I know, I know... "duh." lol) Tonight I'm bringing my Stambaugh to my urban gospel band rehearsal, and I'm expecting no less!

Lately for funk band rehearsals, I've taken to leaving my pedalboard at home and plugging straight in to my rig, just for kicks. One CN112 is all I need, and it sure makes load in super easy... My gig bag and a cab. (Gig bag has room for my Shuttle, cables, iPad, etc etc.)

I downsized from my Avatar B210/B212 Neo stack and was a little worried, but it was needless. One cab has been more than enough to keeping up with my 11-piece funk band at rehearsals. Both CN112's with the Shuttle has made for a surprisingly loud rig for it's size and I'm looking forward to giving the full stack a run with my gospel band... the band leader's philosophy is that if it's not loud, it's not a show. :rollno:

The HD112/CN112 play VERY well when stacked together. I did that test too at Bass San Diego. Very nice stack! You get the best of both worlds in a modular rig that your back can tolerate. ...Just costs a bit more to go that route. Seems like a Win-Win Doug!

First time playing the Stambaugh with the CN stack. Um... Wow! :eek:

Much more midrange presenece/growl with this setup than I've heard from this bass with my other amp setups, and with only a bit of a bass bump on the amp EQ and everything else flat, I cut right through and didn't need to push volume at all. Gain and Volume on the Shuttle were at about 12:00 each, Master Volume was at about 10:00. Kept right up with the gospel band: loud drummer (and his 3 year old son banging away with us last night, who already has wicked drummer face lol), two keys players, sequencer/backing tracks, but only 9 vocalists last night. I would've liked to push my rig a little more, but was afraid it would've drowned out the rest of the band. :D

Is it weird to say that this rig breathed a bit of new life into my Stambaugh? I mean, it has always sounded great, but man... it sounded incredible through these Bergs. It just sounds, well... "right" is really the only term I can come up with.
