New Boss OC-5 Octave

Wow! Never thought of that... In fact, I know about the 4 “thing” in Asian culture but never thought it would still be valid/viable in tech area...

Just was going to post about this! Although, I did find it interesting that Nikon (another Japanese based company) decided to use 4 when they continued the model line with the D4. There must have been enough US presence within the company that they were convinced to just keep it going in sequence.

I just demo'd it 30 minutes ago and it's awesome. I will absolutely be buying one the moment it comes out. For reference, I currently have an OC3 that replaced my Micropog because it was getting unreliable and with the OC3, I missed the upper octave.

The OC5's upper and lower octaves sound very warm and organ-like. The tracking on this thing is spot on and it sounds a bit clearer and more articulate than my OC3. Good stuff!

Have you had a chance to compare it to the tracking of the Boss SY-1? I just sold mine, but I've never played a pedal that tracked as flawlessly as it did. If they have managed to put that engine into the OC-5, then I might be very quickly sold on it.

For the first ~10 seconds, as I watched her hunched over, adjusting the pedal's settings on the floor, I could already hear my lower back protesting: "No. NO. NO!" But the "Sound Examples for Electric Bass" video seemed more amenable, as someone had already done the adjustments/connections for him. I guess I need a roadie!

Do you use the "DRIVE" setting on the OC3? Besides that I don't think you're losing anything with the OC5.

The M288 still gets the job done just fine for me. Works for jazz, funk, and Latin.

OC2+OC3=OC5

So the next one is:
OC2+OC3+OC5=OC10

I didn't get to compare it but the Boss rep told me that the tracking came from the SY-1...

Oh that's VERY good news then. For anyone not familiar, the tracking on the SY-1 is absolutely incredible. I don't recall being able to make it glitch out whatsoever with single notes all the way up and down the fretboard or with chords. It's really that good!

Yes. Doing this in poly mode makes for a fun little organ sort of sound when playing chords.

I wish they kept the drive of the OC3 with the added octave up, I would have got this thing in a heartbeat! Looks like I’m sticking with my EQD Bit Commander and my Vox Trike!

That's cool but am I the only one that likes the OC-3? Maybe? I think I like the feature set of the OC-3 better.

I love my OC-3. Tracks like a champ for me and does what I need it to do. I still may try the OC-5 out though.
