New Boss OC-5 Octave

Most likely going to purchase this. If it can produce a similar sound to the +1 octave on the POG then I’m sold. I never liked the sub octave on the POG. I just want the ability to have that cartoonish +octave of the POG and have the OC-2 sub tone in one pedal. Am I missing something or is this more then capable with the OC-5?

That's cool but am I the only one that likes the OC-3? Maybe? I think I like the feature set of the OC-3 better.

I love the OC-3 too. It's a great pedal. Honestly I never felt like it needed better tracking, but I'll be trying out the OC-5 all the same that's for sure.

I kinda wish they had taken some notes on the success of the boutique octavers out there. The -2 Octave knob could've been replaced with a filter/tone knob. I know BOSS' are "one-click" pedals, but maybe they could've tucked a switch for sub-only into the bottom right blank space. That being said, as an octaver-junkie, I'll have to give it a try. It's up against the stiff competition I already have, which include:

I know 100% this EHX Micro Pog will do octave up and (if you wish) octave down. I've owned one for a decade

There is no Boss xx-4 anything, except for an EQ pedal. 4 is an unlucky number in Japanese/Asian culture, so they do not use 4 on any of their pedals.

There is a Roland FP-4 piano though.

Boss numbering is weird in other ways, e.g., the Boss GT series was released in the following order:

1995 - GT-5
1997 - GT-3
2001 - GT-6
2005 - GT-8
2008 - GT-10
2012 - GT-100
2016 - GT-1
2018 - GT-1000

So 3 after 5, 7 and 9 skipped, and the GT-1 is the seventh unit in the series.

I’m good with my OC-2 clone but good on BOSS for finally figuring out that the OC-3 is total garbage. Also cool for someone on their end to hop on the OC-2’s selling for $300+ dollars secondhand. Probably not a thing though.
I’d be more enthused about a WazaCraft OC-2 with a true bypass switch to be honest

If a pedal can't be demoed by the manufacturer by itself and sound good, that really says a lot about what they really think about their product.

This new Boss OC-5 does do octave up and down. The old ones didn't do octave up.

Too be honest I never saw the point of an octave down for bass. Octave up? Now that’s a good idea. If it tracks well that is.

4 = 四 which is pronounced "shi".

"Shi" is the first sound of the word for "death" or "to die", which is 死ぬ = "shinu", hence the bad luck.

In many uses, the number 4 in Japan has changed from "shi" to "yon".

(Edit-I was wrong about the bamboo shoots thing, that is political, not superstitious!)

Just buy a C4 and get multiple OC2 options, that track amazingly & has no volume issues. And you get a plethora of other sounds to play with.

From a Funk/R&B guy..............not feeling it. At least from what I heard in the above demos...........

I dunno - you can get some pretty funky tones out of those analog octavers. They’re fun if you’re trying to get to that 80’s electro-funk vibe. I know that the OC5 is digital, but if it copped that OC2 sound good enough, having that octave up might come in handy. I don’t have the scratch for an old Pearl.

I know what you mean about the video - I play a lot of R&B and 90% of the demos I see on the internet are completely useless. They always have these wheedly-sounding kids doing their best not to play anything resembling a groove.

Whoa, how recently? Price has been slowly but steadily going up for years on used OC-2s. $90 is a good deal for an original like that. Not that you didn't know that. ha

I prefer to twiddle physical knobs and I personally can’t stand SA’s software interface. Something like this works much better for me.
