New Build- My Eighth, and a challenge

PDGood said:
Yeah, that's motivation alright. Maybe you should do that every time you work on it in the future - leave one thing unfinished so it will make you want to get in and fix it asap. LOL.

I'd lose my mind!!! I'm so OCD that doing something like that would keep me up all night. Great idea, but it would lead to serious nervous disorders!!

There was an old story about one of the famous classical composers - Beethoven or one of those guys. Apparently he had trouble being woken in the morning so the housekeeper would go to the piano and play a major scale and leave off the last note. He couldn't stand to not hear it and would have to get up and go play the last note.
An incomplete work is powerful motivation - but...you've already got one visit planned to the Dr. No need to cause permanent mental disorder. :)

Great story. Sounds like something my wife would do!!
Surgery went well, I'll be taking a few days off to get back to myself. Time for drugs.

I have two incisions. One on the back where the implant used to be. That one freakin' HURTS.
The other is in the front, lower right abdomen. That one hasn't started hurting too much yet. I was given what they called an "elephant's dose" of Fentenal because of the tolerance I already have for oxycontin. The nurses were pretty amazed that I handled it without puking or passing out. Lol. Silly lightweights.
I gotta say, as the hospital's pain meds wear off and I'm left with my normal stuff, it's starting to feel like I'm being ripped in half.
Needless to say, today is a wash on the bass. Lol. I imagine I'll be waking up in the middle of the night REALLY feeling everything. Joy. Can't wait. That was sarcasm, in case anyone missed it.

It was J. S. Bach and it was his wife who devised that bit of torture. She would go to the piano and play an unresolved V7 chord and walk away. He couldn't leave it unresolved. Nice use of Music Appreciation class!

That's just cruel.
Anyway good luck with the surgery and I'm looking forward to seeing this baby come together. This is the first T bird I've really liked.

This morning, instead of being in the shop, I decided to sit at the computer for a few and work on my website.
I've neglected this for a long time cuz let's face it, sitting at a computer sucks when you could be in the shop making dust!!!

So anywhoo, I've been compiling a build archive so I don't lose track of what I've done, and lo and behold, I had managed to do just that!!!

I've been saying since I started this bass that it is my eighth build, and that isn't correct. It's actually my SEVENTH bass!!!
I guess all the pain pills have effected my ability to count. Lol.

So this is number seven. Sorry to get ahead of myself. I think the confusion happened because I had one bass that became firewood after a chisel mishap, and I've also built a lap steel guitar, still unfinished, but I think I was also counting that as a build.

Hmmm... So number seven. Doesn't change anything, I just figured I should be honest with everyone.

Ah don't worry about that bud. What's in a number?

I'd like to see your website though, what's the address? (I'm on iPhone app so don't have access to profile!)

Yeah, I'd like the powers that be to add the profile view option to a future update.
The site is rtbasses.webs.com. Please be gentle. I haven't spent as much time on the site as I should, and it shows. I'd rather be in the shop making clouds of dust for the wife to complain about!!!
For some reason, I haven't been able to add pix of each build to my archive page. I guess that's what I get for using a free host instead of spending the money on a real website. Like I said, I haven't spent as much time on it as I should. Maybe I'll do that while I'm down from this surgery.

I really like the site. Waaaaay better than mine :D

Damn... If I had more money. I suffer terribly with my back and even basses weighing 9 lbs are sometimes too heavy for me.

Out of interest (and for future reference) how much do you charge for custom builds? Feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable answering on forum!

My eventual plan is to start building basses and guitars that are lighter weight and well balanced. Right now, though, I'm still learning the craft so I'm focusing more on making great basses, and once I have that down, I'll start making them lighter.
None of my basses other than the first two have been real back-breakers, but I haven't yet built the 5.5 lb Holy Grail, either.

This 'bird I'm detailing here is shaping up to be around 8 pounds, I figure.

Well, as of about 2am, the decision was made to stay out of the shop today. The pain from the surgery has reached it peak (I HOPE), and rendered me completely incapacitated.
I'll be back at this asap, but for now, I'm forced to obsess over this build from the relative comfort of my recliner.
The second pickup isn't completely routed yet, and yesterday instead of doing that, I routed the back of the body for the inlay.
I can't imagine I'll be back in the shop for at least a few days, so have a great week everyone!!!
