New Carvin P bass, about time?

Wow, sticker shock. Haven't bought Thomastik Jazz Flats in a few years, and they've really shot up in price. $112 for the five string set at Just Strings! Granted, when I use them I only replace them about once every three or four years, but still. Might try some D'Addario tapewounds instead ...

There's a whole thread about fretless Pbass tones. Look it up. Some great examples of both rounds and flats.

I think he's asking for clips of the new Carvin PB5 with flats, not just any P bass with flats. The Carvin pickup is definitely different than your standard P pickup. Hottest passive pickup I've had since my old G&L L1000.

But, if he's just looking for fretless P with flats, the Soundcloud clip in my sig is a fretless P bass with a Bartolini pickup and Thomastik Jazz Flats. And he can look up the thread you're referencing.

Cheers,
Liam

Yeah, I'd like to hear the Carvin split pu in a fretless with flats. Anyone know of a sound clip?

$89.55 at bassstringsonline.com with the VIP pricing. probably pay 4-5 bucks for shipping.

Ive had my TI Flats on my fretless for at least 10 years, but I only play my fretless about 10% of the time.

Cool thanks. I play fretless 99.9% of the time.

I had a set on my old Roscoe fretless for 6 or 7 years. But on my fretless P they were just dull and lifeless after about 4 years. Of course, the anti-flatwound crowd will say they're dull and lifeless from the beginning, but those of us who are enlightened know better lol ... ;)

Cheers,
Liam

That's cool that they used Carl's sound clips on their page. Good playing man!

I want one of these really, really badly.

I've been dying for a 5 string P bass with a neck that is 1 3/4" wide at the nut. Not only that but I can get one in blue trans over swamp ash...now if I can just come up with $1000!

Well, now that Juan Alderete's given me the bug for a fretless PJ (I didn't even really like PJ's until now!), this is looking like an awesome idea. Already scoped it out: Tung-oil finish, tort guard, fretless with lines and dots, detuner, PJ passive. [DEL]Just under $800 with a case! :bassist:[/DEL] EDIT: I can't math; it's actually $973. :hiding:

Now to refocus my priorities.

Got my custom Walnut pickguard from Yarah Customs installed today. I think it's beautiful.
