New Carvin P bass, about time?

How does the new P pickup compare in low end output compared to the other Carvin pickups ??

It's a higher output pickup than the J99A's in my SB. I have the preamp on both my PBJ and SB5000 maxed out and the PBJ is so much hotter that I have to adjust the input gain on my amp when I go between basses. I'm thinking about dialing back the PB pre a hair to match, but right now I like the full sound of it maxed out.

My SB and PB have Alder bodies and maple necks and fingerboards. They are spec'ed out to be as close to each other as possible with the frets being the only difference I can think of with the PB being low wides and the SB having stainless steel jumbo frets.

The sonic difference to my ears is the PB is a fuller and slightly more organic sounding. The SB4000 is brighter than the PB. The PB sits well in a live mix if dialed well, the SB cuts through pretty much any live mix like butter.

Everywhere I play at least a couple of people invariably come up to me afterwards and say something like "What is that bass? It sounds amazing!" Still loving this thing.

The SB4000 neck is pretty chunky to me. It never felt as natural in my hand as the SB5000 profile does. The PB neck feels thinner, more like a J neck, imo. And feels very natural to me. Just a preference thing.

Jarrett, do you know if carvin would make an sb4000 with a PB (or B40) neck profile if ordered over the phone? Also, have you tried the B40 neck, and what are your impressions on that one compared to the sb4000 and the PB4? Thanks.

I have a B40 kit and a SB neck on a Warmoth body. The SB is definitely thicker. I was not expecting it to be as "P" as it is.

The B40 neck is a thinner, flatter Jazz style. I'm interested to know where the PB neck falls too. My guess is somewhere in between.

I have not played a B40 although I would like to. And I bet Carvin would let you order a diff neck profile.
