while I totally understand what you mean here, i would invite you to refocus on the model you will be buying and consider the possibilities that are there! For the Icon has some very interesting possibilities to result in a multi-toned look.

I'm probably a year away from actually ordering the bass, so I'll take a closer look then. I'm more focused now on building my kit bass (not a Carvin, as it's a six stringer) and enjoying the Carvin bass porn.

I originally wanted to do something like this with my Icon build. But I didn't really want a top, due to tone theory. I still love the look, however!

Transparent white over swamp ash. You have to do the antique ash treatment to get transparent white - I can't wait to see it in person.

Unless they asked and I specifically agreed, I'd be pissed if someone passed my bass around to be gratuitously slapped at NAMM before sending it to me as 'new'. Hopefully they don't.

when will carvin make the transition to all kiesel and what will this do to the value of the in between period of carvin/kiesel value? warranty etc?

I believe that the plan is to have some Kiesel and some Carvin instruments for the foreseeable future. My Signature bass is the only Kiesel brand bass at this point.

Warranties will definitely be honored. I don't think there will be any appreciable impact on value.

It appears that the "stock" models will be Carvin and the custom stuff will be branded Kiesel. According to Jeff Kiesel the only difference between them in quality and the like will be the letters on the headstock.

Last week I got to play a Vanquish 5 string through my rig. I have to say I was blown away! Had the radiused humbuckers and standard pre. Just sounded incredible. It played wonderfully too but that was no surprise. What I did find surprising is how comfortable it was to play. Just hung right and didn't feel any less comfortable that my older, light precision bass.

Very impressed.

I'm not sure of the analogy. The street on my Signature is about 1500-1700USD which is in line with a comparable Carvin with fancy top, etc. I guess time will tell. I was given a choice of which name to release my bass under and I opted for Kiesel because it felt like a new beginning for both me and the company. It's the first time I've had that much input in a production bass and it was really important for me to get it right the first time.

Have you seen a final weight listed with empress? I've seen some very low weights on G&L basses using empress.

I have not. He said it felt like 8 pounds or less----is gonna try to get it weighed.

Yeah, just yesterday I saw and considered buying a less than 8 pound, 5 string G&L MJ5 with empress body. but then I was like----Carvin, duh!
