New DR neon strings

I tried the guitar version, the coating wears off the uncoated G,B & E strings pretty fast, significant coating wear off in less then a month from pick use. No such problem with the bass strings though even though I use same pick on bass. Bass strings havent shown any noticeable wear in 5 months. Maybe a tiny bit of wear that needs magnifying glass to see but thats it. Seems the coating doesnt do well on uncoated strings in my experience. BTW I really like the bass string version. sound, feel, and looks wise,

I have been using the coated (ELs, not the neon) acoustic strings for quite a while, and am familiar with how long they last. It seems to be a personal thing - my coatings almost never wear, but only if I'm the only one playing them. I once lent my acoustic to a good friend, a guitarist, and 15 minutes with him and a few chucks of the coating had flaked off.

Oh and in this tropical climate non-coateds are not an option, especially if you don't play that regularly. I've seen strings rust-out even in "corrosion proof" envelopes and plastic bags, not to mention attached to a guitar. I keep my unused strings in a dehumidifier.

You're right. Neons are built around Sunbeams .

:D

God Bless, Ray

I've had a set of the green DR Neons on my bass for a few weeks now, and I have to say I love them! They've got a nice bright tone and are very light. I use them on my ibanez GSR 200 which I mainly use for playing rock and punk (mostly with a pick), and for that they're great. I wouldn't want to use them for jazz or funk, the tone is wrong (imo).
But of course the main thing is how they look and on my red bass the green ones look great! Will try to post some pictures at some stage! :D

Used the Green Neons on my green/maple SB5000 at a gig a couple of days ago. Very happy with the sound and feel, and the look is fun.

The sound seems kind of middle-of-the-road to me, but not in a bad way. Decent bass and fundamental, decent midrange, decent highs, good B string. I'm not blown away by any one thing, but then again they are not lacking something like most other sets. Soft bossa and walking, driving rock, fingerstyle funk, aggressive slap, all sounded good. Lots of discernible pitch with grunt and low treble aggressiveness when digging in.
