New DR neon strings

I've had my DR neons in green on since about late september, and the colour has started to come off on the bridge end and under the frets for about the past month or so. It's nothing you'd notice from offstage, but it's not something I like seeing at the moment. The sound on them is still going strong though. I think I'll go back to a non-coated string though once these ones die out.

DR's website is very hard to find the actual Black Beauties info, but here is a piece from Ed Friedland's review of the Black Beauties.
"The Extra Life strings have a round core and start with a stainless wrap wire"
That could be for the inner wraps and might be what got me thinking in the wrong direction.

Straight from DR Strings, the Black Beauties ARE stainless steel and the Neons are Nickel. I thought so and had to find out because too many people are trying to judge one by the other. Black Beauties are closest to Hibeams and Neons are closest to Sunbeams.

Wa Wa WA?

The plot thickens...

Got to get me some BBs (or Silver Stars) to compare. I'm loving the Neons but a coated SS string is probably another flavour of wonderful.

I always assumed they were the same.

Pics don't do it justice - they sound great, but in black lite the bass just disappears!

This explains why I don't like the sound of the Neons near as much as the old Red Devils I tried, though I much prefer the feel of the Neons, I'll have to try a K3 Black Beauty set.

Cool. I'd like to hear what comes from it. I know the Black Beauties I had on my bass sounded kinda in between nickel and steel to me, so I figured it was the Steels and the coating was mellowing it out to sound a little closer to nickels, but the Sun Beams sound a little darker to me than the Beauties. Then again, I'm half deaf from playing with really loud drummers and steel guitar players!

Not really, because it's incorrect info! All the ExtraLife's and Neons are coated nickel. I'm guessing that's why Dragon Skin's are not part of the ExtraLife line...they are stainless steel.
