New EB Cobalt Flats?

How do these fare in a direct comparison with TI flats? Sound/tension/flex/feel everything. I just want a TI flatwound with a bit more tension!

They don't sound like TI's at all IMHO but they do have higher tension. The tension is in between TI's and Chromes.

The best way i can describe the sound of these strings are with the following three words
-meaty
-punchy
-growly

I have played a set TI's on my Ric for about 1.5 years, and I wouldn't any of those words to describe TI's. TI's are much "warmer" sounding as well. This is all subjective of course...;)

Good Luck!

Can anybody compre them to Ghs precision flats and TI Jazz flats? Tone/frequency/flexibility. I've been using GHS flats for 7 years now and wanted to try TI flats but now I have become

Directly? No, but you know what the GHS flats sound like so:

How would you compare the TI's and cobalt flats in midrange and low end department?

TI's are "drier" sounding like you would expect from flats. The Cobalts are more like a broken in set of Infeld Superalloy rounds with a little thump but still less overtones than traditional roundwounds. They are similar to TI's in the amount of sustain they have though.
They are nicely balanced tonally from lows through to highs.

That's my experience with TIs. For my tonal goals the TIs were horrendously midrangey. The Cobalts have really nicely focused mids and low mids, with a goodly amount of lows, but not too much. +1 to the lack of dryness you get with most flats. They also have a goodly amount of upper mids and top end, but not the sparkle/brittleness of rounds.

Punch and focus are what they excel at.

It's been a while for the TI's, but i can say that the Cobalts have tons of mid's and lows. If i remember correctly, TI's had lots of mid's, but not lots of lows.

Nice. I was just thinking of trying out TIs but was a little sceptical about the tension. I was told the midrange has a nasal tonality to it with still solid lows. Then I saw these cobalt flatwounds in an ad with pino in the new bass player issue and I'm all kinds of indecisve now especially with all the good reviews on them. This was the clip that got me on the TI kick especially at around 3:35

Nasal is an apt description of the TI tone, at least in my experience. They're also like wet noodles to my hands. They're well-loved by those that do like them though.

Mine are two months old now, and IMHO aside from the initial brightness/zinginess, they still sound pretty much the same. I'd say that they sound a bit warmer now than when new.

They are still have a very focused tone that is full of meat, punch, and grind.

Good Luck!

I guess it was a good thing that when I went to a few local shops today none of them had either string. Now I will continue listening to clips of both hahaha

Bass Strings Online is the best place to get strings. Jason is a class act.

And they have them in stock. You don't even have to leave the comfort of your home...;)

Good Luck!

I ordered a set from Jason. Can't wait to try them on my new Rick. If I like them I may have to get sets for my Pbass as well as my Epiphone Jack Casady, although I really don't like the sound of flats on it. If their a little brighter than most flats I may give it a go. The Casady is a little bit too muddy for me with standard flats but punches through and growls like a beast with DM Blue Steels. Anyone try them on a Casady yet?
