New EBMM models!!!

So you're going to argue that the Precision Bass, Jazz Bass, and Stingray are not the most popular bass models?

I don't have sales figures in front of me, so I'm not going to argue them. I imagine you don't, either, or they would have been included in your post. I will, however, ask where the bolded statistic came from, out of curiosity.

You don't think that new pick up options for the 3rd most recognizable bass model is going to be a big deal?

Using the phrase "most popular" presents several other issues. How did you determine "popularity"? Sales numbers? If so, over what period? (an older company would have an edge). Sales figures leave out those that like the bass, but have not yet purchased or cannot afford it. Are they factored into popularity?

Simply put, I had wanted to know where you got the information on the recognizability of bass models.

Mike

Edit: to keep this on topic...I think they'll sound good.

I think what xcentral is trying to say is that the MusicMan stingray is a very high profile bass. No argument there, at all.

And the addition of 2 pickup models to their line is a long time coming. It's pretty obvious here that the technology that MM developed in the bongo is being translated, either wholly or in-part, to the rays...a very good idea...just not an "earth shattering" one (as I said before)...more like an "obvious" one.

Good for Ernie Ball.

Yes, I have the sales statistics right in front of me. [/sarcasm]

So then what bass designs would you consider the most popular and recognizable?

This should be another thread, but.....

The J and P basss are, I think without much discussion here, the most popular and recognizable. This is largly due to how long they have been around and success of design (which kinda go hand in hand). From there it's a crap shoot. Under "recognizable", I imagine Rickenbacker would land in there somewhere.

All of this is beside the point, however. I think its a fair assumption to say that the Stingray is popular; but the 3rd most recognizable bass of all time? That's a bit too specific considering the amount of data you have to back it up.

Mike

You all realize that this is all thanks to me- i just bought a 4 string stingray 4-14-05 and as luck would have it, my 30 day return policy ran out saturday... i will aceept gratitude in the form of cash.

(not that i would even consider returning my stingray- it is a wonderful instrument. but now i can get another one :) )

and just for the record, the 3rd most recognizable bass model is (drumroll please)- the Jackson Kip Winger Signature model :hiding:
