Double Bass New EDB-2 and EDM-1 from Headway For Trial

I'm pretty much interested in just the Band, the Headway preamps have been talked about all over the forum, and for the most part are accepted as the best thing available for DB if you need a preamp. Most of the dealers carrying the Band and other Headway products offer a return policy. A no brainer really, you cough up the bucks, and return it if you don't like it. That's nice, because not that long ago, when you bought a pickup, and after you unwrapped it, you owned it, like it or not.
I'm interested in The Band pu. ..most of the online dealers that have it are offering a return policy. So far the reviews have been confusing. With the exception of folks like Ric Vice, drub, or CF, who know how to critique amplified acoustic bass sound very accurately in forum speak. Somebody put up some pretty obscure sound clips of The Band that may or may not of been the sound of the Band pickup..since the sound files were poorly labeled, and my browser shuffled them. Some other people say things like awesome, "better than" this or that other pu, or nothing sounds as good as a mic..ect.
Proof really is in trying it yourself.
So I'm going to order one, if I like it I'll keep it. Simple. If i keep it I might post some impressions after using it for several months.

The preamps both possess a clarity that I find lacking in the AI preamp. The new features on the EDB2 make it much more usable in a variety of settings. The Mini preamp is just darn cute and sounds every bit as good as it's big brother. Both preamps shine when plugged into a powered speaker. That's it for now. More to come ...
I tried reading through the thread to find the answer, but couldn't without reading all of every post, but here's the question: has anyone with direct experience with both posted about the sonic differences between the EDB-1 and EDB-2 besides the slightly lower noise floor? And did that issue with channel 1 being too hot for some pickups get addressed in this version?

Based on the comparison, that I did when I had both boxes, the EDB-2 solved the problem with the Channel 1 input gain being to hot for the, Realist pickup. Two other features that you can't discount, are the new Standby position, added to the power switch, since it allows you to turn a powered speaker on, before you turn on the EDB-2. That eliminates the potential damage to it the speaker inside the box, from that nasty pop. Having the three way variable impedance switch on the second channel, can be pretty useful if your using dual piezo pickups.

Several gigs under my belt now and I'm really loving this little box. The EDB-2 is giving me the sound I want and if the rooms a little weird, dialing it back in is pretty easy. I'm not going for the utltra-realistic acoustic sound - more "modern" (Bromberg, Buster, Sam Jones, RC, Stanley, Curtis Lundy, etc). I could prob get a more realistic it if I used another pickup instead of the Realist. My Ehrlund needs repairs - the cables tore out of the jack but I'm so happy with my sound I don't care to experiment further. At least for now.
Also I'm making good use of the XLR input for annoucements. Worth every penny.

I'm interested into the difference between the EDB-1 (that i own) and the EDB-2 as far as its intrinsec "hiss" noise.
Sometimes i noticed it, and it would be better if i heard it less ....
Anyone has really compared the two units, regarding the floor noise, and can give me his opinion?

I had both units side by side to compare them, my post about it is somewhere in the middle of this thread. There are many other design changes that were well thought out. The Power Switch now has a Standby position, that allows you to turn on your amp or powered speaker and then switch on the Headway. You can assign the EQ to either Channel 1, Channel 2 or both. The Notch filter and Phase Recerse can be assigned to either Channel 1 or Channel 2. The three way impedance input switch is now on both Channel 1 and Channel 2.

Anyway, i read throught the whole thread (in the posts written by you) but i can't find any direct comparison between the old and the newer unit regarding the only issue of noise floor.
I don't care if "on the paper" they say that the specs are so and so.....
I'm interested is someone has compared by ear (and better: by recording) the effective lower noise floor, in a controlled test.
I use the EDB-1 (mainly for violin), and if there's one single thing i'd like better it would be "less intrinsec noise". All other factor are not relevant to me........
