New Empress Compressor MKII

Great Job @Mitch -Empress and team! Under lockdown in Ontario is not an easy time to make all this happen. Thanks for navigating it and not just closing shop until lockdown is over.

Thanks for understanding! Also if anyone hasn't received the shipping notification yet we are still in the process of getting them all out. We only have 1 person in the shop at a time right now so shipping is a little slower but all of them will go out this week if you filled out the form linked above or if you ordered directly from our site it will automatically ship.

I think it could be pretty hard to make the pedal worse. The only thing I could see someone doing is tugging on the clips to the ribbon cable really hard and snapping them off so be gentle there! The procedure is really simple, you can find instructions here - Invalid Link Removed

Hey, @Mitch -Empress , that link doesn't seem to work. Here's what I get:

Thanks for letting me know, this should get you there - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Received my update ribbon cable today. From the time that I removed the Bass Comp from my pedal board to reinstalling it and testing the results took 10 minutes and half of that was booting up my tablet to get a good look at the images on this guide to make sure I was doing it right.
And it works great. Completely noise free and sounds awesome.
Thanks Mitch for your efforts. I’ve since sold my Cali76cb and my Doc Lloyd PDRV and the only other comp I kept was my LA-1A. Love this thing.

Canada Post delivered my Empress fix today, a few days ahead of ETA. I was a little nervous about the potentially delicate surgery, but the instructions with images made it easy-peasy. After ribbon replacement I tested the comp with a passive bass -- gorgeous compression, and dead silent!

Others have already said as much, just adding my 2¢.

P.S. Might as well repost the link to the fix instructions:

Same here. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I’m not a comp guy....At all. But the BC is just kicking some serious buttage on my little board.

I’ve got it first in line feeding an Alix. I also have a Monocomp on the fx loop of the Alix. The MC ain’t no slouch. LOVE the tilt EQ. But the BC seems to get the call every time. Soooo much energy and power to each note. And I found it really easy to dial in. Which is saying something as I’m not the brightest bulb in the tool shed.

I’m sure I will be way down the list as I got mine shipped the day the locked em down...

in wouldn’t be surprised if mine was one of the last affected ones - slipped through on the scratch and dent sale. Gigging I use wireless so I can wait for a bit...

Same here. All the basses I regularly play are active, so the noise problem has been a no care. I'll update the compressor when the part gets here.

Before the fix, I noticed some noise with my actives that have a passive tone control. Again, I'm not a tech, but my understanding is that a passive tone "un-buffers" the signal to some degree (raises impedance). I got no noise from my basses that were "fully active", so to speak.

Empress Bass Comp AND new ribbon both arrived today.
Ribbon replacement was so well described and so simple that even an ape like me could manage it easily.

First impressions - this compressor, I like it!

I agree. The cable replacement was a cakewalk.

I’ll test it out tonight. I’m excited as this thing has been collecting dust for the last two months because the clicking/static noise bothered me to no end!

The replacement cable is in and I’m still hearing the clicking/static noise on the third LED (-3) of the gain reduction light set. I get the exact same results with my two passive p-basses and stingray. Am I the only one that still hears the clicking/static with the replacement ribbon cable? It’s clear as day on my setup. I’m not too sure what to do now...
