Yeah, big time. Set the attack and release fairly slow. And run the parallel compression (the Mix knob) around noon.

New Empress Compressor MKII

I've never owned the Cali so I can't compare, but as to bringing out the attack of the note...
Yeah, big time. Set the attack and release fairly slow. And run the parallel compression (the Mix knob) around noon.
I got an email from Empress this morning saying that the cable replacement should be going out end of this week or early next week.
To those that feel there is too much harmonic content with the Tone + Colour switch try blending a bit more of your dry signal in by turning the mix knob counterclockwise.
That's because on the Stella the saturation control acts on Dry Line only.
Snagged one of these from the classifieds today, so by next week I should be able to add it to my board.
First impressions are very favorable. I messed around with it for quite a while today, and I definitely think I’m going to like it.
I’ll echo what @Ewo said about it bringing out the attack in notes. It’ll do it very well. I’ve owned a Cali76 CB, and with the Empress I’m not feeling like I’m missing a certain “something” that the Cali76 did to my overall sound. Time will tell, obviously, but so far I’m very impressed. My bass just sounds better with it on, even though it doesn’t seem very colored.

Mine has zero clicking/noise issues, but I’m also running active basses through a Shure GLXD16, so it shouldn’t ever be an issue for me.
They didn't, sorry. The shipment is scheduled to arrive today so depending on when they get here we can test them all and start sending them out early this week.
This new Bass Compressor may be the best compressor I’ve ever used. I’m pretty blown away. I have my Peterson StroboStomp HD in buffered bypass mode, until I get the flex PCB fix. The comp has no issues when the tuner is buffered. I love the Tone/Color switch in the left position with my P basses. I think I prefer the switch off with my Sadowsky Jazz.

I’ve owned several different comps over the years, and had always felt that nothing could beat out the Cali76 CB for what I’m looking for.
I was all set to buy another Cali when putting my latest board together, but after reading the review that @scubaduba did on the Empress, and then watching the video that Hondo Felder did, I figured I’d give it a try.
I’m no longer looking to buy a Cali76. The Empress is now Dual Locked to my board and it’s not going anywhere.

Oh that’s how mine is set too. I’m just OCD enough that even an always-on pedal like that is gonna get a Barefoot Button so it doesn’t look out of place.
