New Empress Compressor MKII

After extensive testing our simple fix of replacing the ribbon cable with a flex PCB does the trick. As of right now the parts are scheduled to be delivered on January 11th so we should be able to ship these out early next week. Sorry to everyone that is waiting for these, I know it is a painful wait.
I recently ordered the bass version from my local music instrument store. This explains the delivery delay. Can’t wait for mine to arrive in a week or so.

It is worth the upgrade IMHO.

Ive pretty much decided to give one a try.... I used to use a compressor on my rig but have gone a while without one..... I’ve recently revisited it and forgot how much I really liked it. Did a brief audition of a couple “tone enhancing” compressors. I realized that on my current rig I prefer a more transparent comp.

Could you put into words the differences you hear between the three of these? Very interested...
Well the Cali76cb I bought from you several years ago so you probably have a good handle on that one. Slightly coloured with a upper mid/top end bump but otherwise fairly transparent. Works great.
LA-1A is chok-full of tubey (limiting) amp goodness but doesn’t get mushy/squishy. Awesome tone. Coloured but not to the point of being too fat.
Empress kind of has the best of both worlds. Colour and a hint of harmonics if you want it, fairly transparent if you want that. Very versatile and more usable over a wider range of circumstances. It just brings a depth and body to the notes that you immediately miss when you turn it off. Even more so than the others that also have this quality.
Running the Empress into the LA-1A is a neat thing but that’s another story.

Wow, impressive. I have a Cali76 again because I haven’t found anything else that brings out the attack of the note quite as well (the main thing I want from a compressor). I wonder if the Empress can do that as well...

It can.
I prefer the Empress Bass Compressor to the Cali76 CB.
Agreed. Although if I hadn’t heard of the Empress, I’d be pretty happy as is.
But now I’m more happy.
