New FleaBass Colors! (AWESOME)

act_serge_ibaka.jpg

I wanted a blue one so i could pimp it up w/ some thunder stickers but it doesn't seem worth it from the reviews around here. Maybe if I can find a used one w/ the emg pup i'd pull the trigger.

On a side-note, I have no idea why people are getting so heated in this thread. The two new colors (which I think was supposed to be the topic of thread) don't actually look half bad, though I can't say I love the general aesthetics of the bass itself. It seems like people are making this more about Flea than the actual product and there is no real need to.

Alright to get this clear since I haven't checked this post since I posted it late last night:
They're 500$ in Foreign-Inhabited Obamaland down here ;D
The pickguard IS NOT put on with double sided tape, it is painted pexiglass (still cheap I know) SCREWED on
Flea has stated he knows the issues with the bass and plans to fix most of these problems within the next line
All of the colors aren't childish, mind you he has a generic Black and White one and this new White and Black one, and they're not childish, if you get the humor in playing with one of these things you all might understand a little what it was like playing live with weird basses and people laughing when we were kids.

Overall, yes, the quality is terrible. But in the future with these basses I hope to see improvement to the following:
Pickguard
Pickup (done, with a little tweaking I had this baby sounding great)
Paint Job (oh lord put a dang truss rod cover on if you don't want that crap job showing)
Pots and Electronics Overall

But the things I did enjoy about this bass were:
Neck (love the jazz bass feel, nice and slim, smooth)
Pickup (after tweaking and running it through a modeler)
Cool Colors (I mean, honestly, don't be so grown up ;D)
DVD (nice cool tone setup done by Flea got me up and ready)

I do not recommend you go out and by one now, but if you really want to, go to a shop and play a few before ordering, please.

Thanks Guys.
Kyle

no heat here, it's just a public forum & it's raining outside so i'm not out riding my scoot

i personally couldn't name 3 rhcp tunes, could care less, all i know is that he's an accomplished player, & does deserve some respect. but it's just popular here at TB for wannabee's/neverwuzz's/& neverwillbees to rip him personally for some reason, see post # 19 for example

oh, & for the record, i love the new colors.

a couple of years back ibanezcollector was refinishing a few sx's & squiers that he picked up cheap & was painting them in a bunch of kooky colors, & TB'ers were snatching 'em up like hotcakes, ( so that blows the insinuation that only kids like the colors of flea's basses )

just stirrin' the pot 'yall

how about I stirr it further and add some spices while I'm at it?

Honestly they are what they are...as the previous poster NorCalDog said about KOOKY colors?...gentlemen, this is NOT something new I still have 2 80's relics and always get asked to sell them.
young folks can't remember the days when REAL wild colors were the top sellers. The Flea colors are a trendy thing, it will last for a while, just like the KOOKY colors from the late 80's

And I'm sure you work hard for it. No sarcasm. Thing is, Flea had plenty of money before he put these basses out. My first bass was an MIM P that cost me $200 used in 1991. It was a nice enough bass. Today, adjusted for inflation, it would have cost me $300 or a little over half of what a new Fleabass goes for. My son's Squier Bronco cost $90 bucks used when I bought it for him a few years ago. It's a little blah, but it's a playable instrument. I don't see how the Fleabasses help get kids into music by putting an affordable, playable, kid-sized instrument into their hands, which is Flea's stated reason for putting them on the market. I've bought much, much nicer basses for $500.

I bought my geddy lee bass used for around $500. Buying a fleabass is probably one of the worst ways to spend $500 in the bass market nowadays. These things are a joke. Words couldn't express my anger if I, being a teenager who's low on money, decided to spend that $500 on a fleabass from MF and when it comes in the mail the thing plays like crap. There's no reason to buy one

except I bought one from Musicians Friend and it plays great. The reasons to buy one: Looks sweet, plays sweet, IS sweet. They're definitely not a joke. I don't get it, have you played one by any chance? Or are you just saying that 'cause they don't appeal to your tastes in looks.

Actually, the main reason I wanted one when they first came out was the looks. I actually think they look great, but fortunately I went to my local music store to try one before I bought. The quality was no where near on par with what a bass for $500 should be, IMO of course. I would buy one in their current state at $200 maybe, but then again you can probably get a used VM jazz bass for that price. Just saying there's much better options for the kids who are low on money and want a high quality bass which was the situation I was in recently.

well, like someone above mentioned...you can pick up any bass and that particular one could have been completely abused by players in the store. If you picked up one Modulus, Music Man, Fender and it was in bad shape, didn't play well, wasn't set up...does that mean all are bad? No... I got lucky and mine played great out of the box. So...experiences are bound to vary from player to player. Doesn't mean this bass is terrible.

thanks for trying to school me in your ideals, but haven't had to labor for money in quite some time

was actually applying the kiss approach " keep it simple stupid " without delving too deep into my personal philosophies on infinite supply mon

now back to our ongoing i'm jealous of flea thread

Excuse me, I'm no teacher boyo, our acronym user, and usually try to keep my ideals and philosophies separate but if you're stupid and like to keep it simple, have it dog. Enjoy

This was not NAMM, this was last saturday at MusikMess in Frankfurt, Germany

my friend took these pics with his iPhone, I wasn't very interested bout the fleabasses to take ones myself, but I played one and they are terribly awefull (my opinion) Lower action, and another pup are absolutely needed for that bass. Oh, and a new look

there was a pink, a white, and a silver metallic fleabass, all with a black pickguard. I kinda liked it in silver, at least, it looks a bit fine!

That day was historical for us, I met two of my idols, such as Wojtek Pilichowski and TM Stevens. Bootsy collins was also there, but I wouldn't say I was a big fan before, I am now :smug:

cheers

Ah I see. David couldn't quite understand where he was at because of the language barrier of course ;D

Being a Native of Bootsy's hometown I actually meet him quite often.

Thanks for the clarification.

all i gotta say is ATTA-BOY FLEA !!! keep on putting basses out there that make the snobs cringe !!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

"Keep on"? I seem to remember him having a Modulus signature model for some time. Huh.
Anyway...
I was really hoping for an instrument at least as good as my SX. I was disappointed. I'm disappointed in how this is being marketed...as a beginner's tool. However, the one I tried was barely playable. A kid is not going to "keep on" developing when he's fighting his instrument due to poor playability. Flea was a tremendous influence when I started learning bass guitar.
