The design engineer works in car audio now, FWIW. He was a great contributor here on TB and many of us miss him. Plenty of other companies have experienced similar deals though, it's just part of the business landscape.

I want to say the combos would be available after the heads. I'm guessing they have to build the cabs and whatever may be involved with beginning that part of production.

So I'm seeing it like this.

Short term goal = Legacy 800 on top of my new GK CX210 cabs then a little later down the road a legacy combo for a grab and go then off the gear train I go. I may pair down from current amplifier holdings to just the GK 700RB due to the romance I have with it.

My thoughts? We've been hearing about and waiting for 2 years for an amp that's supposed to sound like an amp released 40 years ago.

But....yeah...sure.....I'd like the check one out :-)

I have to respectfully disagree.

The new amp is NOT a RB takeoff.
I would call it influnced but it is certainly a evolution. ;)

It might just be the best amp I have ever played through.

I'm happy to stand corrected! Color me intrigued.

I thought it was just a - "hey we did a classic with a modern foot print"

Well the problem is if GK comes along and says its a recreation of an 800RB in a Class D package the amps could sound and feel identical in every way and someone will come and claim they are nothing alike and whine about what a travesty it is.

So that's confusing. You mean they were aiming to be a class D 800RB, but they resisted messaging close similarity because there will be nominal differences?

What I'm hearing from Tony is that this amp is 800RB inspired, but it's really it's own thing. And that was the aim to begin with.

Anyway, I've enjoyed my MBF800 for a long time, and I was initially really excited about these. But since they were first "announced", I've added a Demeter and a Mesa WD-800 to my stash, so I'm must less interested in a new amp these days. But, hey, let's see/hear what it has to offer!

This. Pretty much. All GK stuff has GK DNA in it, obviously. But tastes change over the years and preamps evolve. I don't think anyone from GK ever said it would be an exact copy of the 800RB - It's whatever Bob and co. came up with from the decades of development since the 800rb came around. It'll be its own thing, and I bet many people will like it. Bob also professes not to be a fad chaser. So it'll likely be a conservative mix of old and new design.

I mean, how many people are sitting around saying "Shucks, I wish he would remake the GMT 600B with a Class-D/SMPS power section. It's just a couple of yokels in here who have hot wishes for exactly the same product as 30+ years ago along with a "Oh, well, if it HAS to be Class-D, it better at least have the 800RB preamp." Malarkey.

I spoke briefly with Bob and Forrest Gallien at NAMM about the new amps. (Nice guys, BTW.) What they conveyed was an if-you-like description rather than a this-is-the-new-X claim. Here’s what I heard: If you like the RB series tone and features, the new Legacy amps are designed for you. If you like the MBF series tone and features, the new Fusion amps are designed for you. If you Like the Plex pedal tone and features, the new Plex amps are designed for you.

I was fortunate enough to be one first people to try the Legacy.

I was actually put on the spot, after I was asked to play it with my own bass and exspess my thoughts.

My first thoughts was like exactly the same statement as Forrest. The evolution of the RB. Like the RB, grew up, went to collage, started working out and taking “supplements” ;).

Did you get to turn them all the way up? A main complaint people sometimes have with class D amps is that when compared to class A/B, they don’t keep up as well when you really turn them up. I also wonder if these feature GK’s own power amp module, or one that other class D amps share.
