The overdrive on the L800 is pretty decent but I like the tone I get with the Soul Food pedal also!!

New GK 800 Legacy!

So you removed 2 feet from your cab to fit the head on it? ...curious about the cab and the badge's orientation (sorry to change the subject).
It's a Mesa Subway 12 it has feet on the bottom and on one side so that I can stand it up either way. I have it upside down because it sits better on my crate for this particular set up.
Mostly as a small boost with a bit more dirt on a few songs when guitarist is solo’ing, and on two songs i need it on all through the song with a lot more dirt. I have been using my Helix for the second bit but I’m going to use just the L800.

I always run my gain knobs at about 11:00. When I got the L800, I decided to try the factory recommendations for the trim knob (all the way up). It's been descending ever since, LOL. I may try some other lower (MB-like) settings just to experiment. So far over the years, I've found a way to be happy with most gain/trim settings on my GK's.
I was surprised that GK recommend maxing it out, but i have found that my passive P bass doesn't activate the clip light (much, if at all). So for me Max is the right input level, but noisy whether the bass is plugged in or not. Never too noisy though.

The Legacy is designed to run with the Trim max up unless you are getting input clipping.

I would give you my explanation of trim but it wouldn’t be relevant...
I had one for a few months. I hadn't notice when I bought it that it was a two-channel amplifier. It's rated for 800 watts at four ohms, just like the Legacy 800. It'll give you 1,200 watts with two four-ohm cabinets. IMO, unless you have two four-ohm cabinets, you're better off with the Legacy 800. I had no issues whatsoever with the amplifier. It sounded amazing, was small and lightweight.
I just got a Legacy 800. Traded in my 700rbII. While it sounds similar it also seems to have more bells and whistles. I’m trying to get a similar amount of that GK growl but the knobs are obviously a bit different. Does the trim work like an input gain? Can I get that growl without using the separate distortion circuit? I understand the idea behind the It but it seems more like a distortion then say an overdrive. Still not sure how the drive and level knobs work.

Your gonna love this amp, read the manuel it describes what each knob does, it even says to set the trim full on, adjust volume ..
I love it already. What really sold me was the size and weight. I had the RB a while. Just struggling a bit to get a comparable tone especially since the knobs have changed noticeably.
Here’s my typical settings, all three toggles up, but I’m also using the bass soul food pedal for a little OD to get that sizzle tube like tone, you can use the onboard OD but very sparingly, it gets close to the pedal tone..
@MikeD50 were you ever able to dial in a 700rbII style growl out of your Legacy 800? I'm on the fence about picking up the Legacy 212 combo and was curious if it could do that RB growl.
