So do you still feel like the Legacy with a CX210 or CX410 could cop the feel of the classic 800rb through an Ampeg 810 sound? Or are you referring to it not being quite as versatile for also doing modern tones as the PLEX head?

Curious about the cabs they said they’re redesigning from the ground up. Wondering if I should hold out or just pick up a CX210 for the time being.

Best bet would be to pickup a CX210. Especially with the legacy heads releasing in mid April. I already preordered mines through Reverb and went with 2 CX210’s.

I think I might throw in a preorder myself when we are a little closer to release and I can for sure get one on financing at work. My little ELF is great but I was definitely looking for a main gigging head. I need to re-read this thread to get the tonal aspects of the new heads.

I'm referring that it would not be as versatile as the PLEX head.
However with that being said, we can hear things a bit different...I hear the Legacy as an amp that has the grunt of the RB but the tonal flexibility and contour as the MB.

I heard my guitarist say "Oh Man...It sounds like Ampeg and Demeter had a super baby..." I mean that was his interpretation of it.

Time marches on...

I have to admit, hearing the RB’s will be phased out is a little sad. If there are any lead sleads that deserve to survive the lightweight renaissance, they are the RB’s. Can’t fight change and there will be tons around on the used market for many years, so there’s that. The next contender in line to replace my 700RBII was up until now likely going to be one of the Mesa Subway heads, but if the Legacy’s manage to retain that RB magic, they’ll unquestionably be in the front running.

GK seems to be going full steam ahead in adapting to what are the rapidly evolving expectations of the market. Looks like the GK bi-amping feature (love it or hate it) will be a thing of the past, as well as the different EQ layout which never bothered me anyway as I have ears and can read too! What I do see are big, bold steps on GK’s part...so nothing new there! I can’t wait until the user reports start coming in.

Too bad the MB 200 seems to be going away. I like the idea of a gig-baggable amp NOT made in China.
EDIT: The chassis of all the amps looks a little big for gig bag carry. Too bad, I like my MB800 for just that reason, among others.

On that note, where are these made? Please say California...

I have heard from a few people that are bummed out about RBs going away.
I have a few old ones and I have decided to move one of them and not horde them.
So I'm hitting this thread for if anyone is interested in an older 400RB

Your best bet would be the Legacy or the PLEX head.

I've owned and own more than my share bass amps, preamps, power amps, etc. MANY!! The only "old" head I still have is my early eighties 800RB. Simple and great. When I first moved to Los Angeles, Jim Williams, a rather infamous local tech was offering an 800RB mod. Really only changing stock parts to high quality parts mainly in the preamp section. Everyone was doing it. Sooo much better. Still an amazing head! I get compliments every time I bring it out. If these new heads are similar I think they could do very well.
