New Head: Valkyrie from Baer Amps... Thoughts?

Tung-Sol has also recently released a 12AU7 that sounds really nice as well. I did a lot of tube rolling at one point and honestly, in our tube circuit, the differences in tubes are fairly subtle. Besides the Tung-Sol's, I think the EH tubes are very good sounding in this type of circuit too, as they have a nice aggressive grind when pushed hard.

My pleasure. Thanks for getting into it! What matters is that you are happy with the sound for the use case.

I look forward to hearing the Valkyrie. And if ever I can own one, you can be sure I will swap some special vintage tubes into it... at my expense! :D

Hey Ryan, things are very busy right now, as you can tell, but I seem to thrive on the chaos for some reason. My wife thinks it's some sort of need for self punishment thing. It's very possible she's right! :help:

So Roger, the DI on the Valkyrie, where along the signal path would that fall? Like, after the preamp/tubey guy and before the power amp?

EDIT: Guess I should have looked it up....

DI - XLR w/ level control, pre/post EQ & pre/post tube switches

Or two ML212's, or 4 ML115's...or probably a lot of stuff.

After talking to Roger on the phone for a loooong time over the BassGearMagazine ML112 article, I expect biiiiig things out of this head. It's gonna be a killer.

I fully expect to set my credit card on fire over it.

This seems to have a lot in common with the Thunderfunk TFB800 but I'm holding out for the Valkyrie. I really like the design concepts and think it will sound wonderful with a pair of ML112's. The eq section, power section, use of big iron, and 2 ohm stability look excellent but the optical compressor and way the tube is employed puts it over the top for me. I'm hoping the low end voicing is a little tighter and not quite as wide as the Mesa M6. Would I be wrong in assuming that if the damping and transient response are robust that eq would be used to adjust how tight or open the low end is voiced? My current GB ShuttleMax 9.2 is a fine amp I have no complaints with, but was wondering if there would be a perceived difference in heft and harmonic content of the notes versus the Valkyrie through a pair of ML112's. Any plans to update the Baer website with the current blackface Valkyrie?
