New Headless Dingwall!

The long finger-like things do seem to be some kind of string clamp; no idea how that works though! I’m looking forward to hearing more about it.
If I can change the strings on a headless without an allen key then that would be amazing. That’s the only part of the design that’s a weakness for headless basses in my opinion
Kahler had a locking nut that had lever-locks and it looks like this could be the same basic mechanism.

Lots of great stuff going on with this bass and it might look like the only major thing lacking is body contours.

Oh, good point. If it ends up having no body contours that will be inexplicable and a (theoretical, since I can't afford one anyway LOL) deal breaker.
Not for me. I don’t like contours anyway. Just a rounded - or preferably chamfered - edge will do.

We're talking in broad terms here with the primary focus being anything the softens sharp edges.

Anyways, in other news I just found this.

I have two headless basses, a Zon and a Keith. Both have bridges with the usual roller tuners, and I've grown accustomed to them. They are recessed, and I love that these basses are nearly always in tune (perfectly in tune!) when I pull them out of the case.

OTOH the nut end of the Dingwall headless is perfect. The no-tools clamping design, and retractable wings which allow it to be used with a hanging stand... absolute genius, and I'm green with envy that my Keith and Zon don't have those features.

I'm not going to buy a Dingwall headless, they aren't my style, but deepest respect to them for quality (I've played a few) and innovation.

today's IG post also mentions something about a "lever" system inspired by Philip Kubicki. Incredibly interested in more details, even if it'll be way out of my price range.
Wow Bob Wow - I'd also love to hear about that Phil Kubicki referenced detail, and yes... more to look at and ponder.

The body is going to be more heavy because of the extra thickness, which is not a design choice but imposed by tuners instead. Hence the thinning out on the neck side.

Those tuners seem like they have a really short travel, could be "bottoming out" frequently (during setup).

The headstock length is not a solution really, a headless that still has half a length of a regular head is...marketing?

How good are those string clamps? Ibanez made a mess on EHB series, so many broken and unwound string due to half-assed design that saved the company a few coins.

Head wings are a solution but not by someone who plays a headless bass.
Looks like a rushed prototype. Here, a solution on the same level (sorry that its an EHB on the image):
