The Grooveline basses were very well designed, loved the look of the Wenge neck.

Sorry, yeah 182. I find that Sire does a good job at their price point. I am an Ibanez fan but "superior in every way" to Sire? Not in my opinion. These things are opinions right? Also, there is the old YMMV thing.

I agree. I think both are very, very good but they occupy different realms of the bass multiverse. Seems the lines between those realms are becoming less clearly defined with recent entries from both makers. It would be interesting to see if Sire introduces a super premium line, like the Japanese produced Ibanezes? Time will tell.

Not for nothing, I bought a Sire V7 2nd Gen (5 string) last year, and it was a nice bass, if heavy. But right out of the box 3 of the 5 knobs just spun like ballerinas. No sense of whether it was a 0 or 10, and again, that was brand new right out of the box. I've never seen that on any of the maybe two dozen basses I've had, though honestly I mostly buy used basses. If I had swapped out the pre altogether it would have been fine, but brand new that should never have been packed up and sent in that condition, IMHO.

Question about the Ibanez single string bridges; could you go EADGC on one of the 5ers or would that be difficult due to the spacing of the individual bridge bits? I like to have the option of either the low B or high B tuning on a 5 string but have never had a bass with the individual bridges like these Mode series basses.

My soundgear has the same bridge.

I dont see why this wouldn't work. The bridges are evenly spaced, so the string centers would still be 18mm apart (16.5mm for my SR). Theres also some adjustability. I was able to get the SR to 17mm spacing. So you should be able to play around with it a bit to get it where you need it.

Ah ok. I can't speak to that directly, but the saddles have a good amount of forward/backward adjustability as well.

I would imagine it would also partially depend on your string choice.

I played two of the Mode basses today. Gotta say, I am impressed. They feel great and the tones are killer. Build quality seems great too. These are nice basses.

For the people complaining about the number of controls (apart from for aesthetic reasons) - can't you just ignore them?

It would be very tempting to rewire it so the pull on the push-pull is the active setting. A three knob - passive only version would be nice at some point.

Definitely not as thick. From what I remember when playing the couple in the store the other day it feels smaller overall but that might be because it is not as chunky.

Not according to what I've seen coming from the Ibanez warehouse to music stores lately. I've seen quite a few that couldn't be set up satisfactorily. and it's not just the basses, it's the guitars, too. Something's going on with Ibanez QC right now.
