New Keeley Bass compressor

I'm gonna donate on your page bongomania, how else can you keep up these purchases?? 5 bucks from many of us, and we'd all benefit from the knowledge you put on those pages. You are a community resource!
Edit: Did it, 10 bucks. Not much but something.

I am confused about something here. Why would eve a 6dB rolloff at 20-25kHz be such a big deal when the musical note E6 (Fret #24 on the high-E string of a standard-tuned guitar) is only 1,318.51Hz? (Assuming A=440hz) (Source: Circle K Strings musical note frequencies chart)

Also, if I recall correctly, 25kHz is just outside the audible range of the average person.

Couple of things. One is that some people actually want to use the entire audible frequency range. Personally I can hear a bit above and below the average range. Sure there are plenty of cases where some rolloff is useful or desirable--e.g. for a tighter sound, less mud, or svt speaker emulation. But people should be able to know before they buy a pedal exactly what they are getting. What makes this rolloff particularly relevant to my comments about the new Keeley is (a) the highs sound a bit dull to me, and (b) Robert says there is no rolloff. So that's why this is something to discuss.

FWIW, I have been having technical problems for the last couple of weeks, and there's the whole question of whether my methodology is ideal, as covered in earlier posts---so it's possible my RTA reading was flawed. I have bought a new audio interface and a new noise generator and will retest the Keeley when I've got everything dialed in.

Ive been using the new Bassist compressor for a few months. I dont notice any high end roll off... Either through my rig on gigs or on IEM gigs with state of the art DIs etc.. .No i cant hear up to 20k... But then im not playing an instrument that needs to go to 20k+

It is perhaps the nicest compressor pedal that i have played.. . Real easy to set up... Plug n Play if i have to use that cliche. But its true

Fair question. I think what I was hearing was something I've commented on with many dbx-type comps, which is the highs getting "swallowed" during compression, especially during low notes. I also amended my review with a comparison to the M87, which to my ears seems to keep the tone more "lively" than the Keeley.

IOW I am reasonably sure I was actually hearing something objectively "real", but I misattributed the cause of what I heard because of how the first round of graphs looked.

To be clear though, my description of the highs and the tone is totally nitpicky; many people wouldn't hear the difference. I only harped on it for a few posts there because I thought the graphs were showing me something more significant.

Perusing some posts last week led me here and I once again found something that I didn't know that I had to have. I hate Talkbass, always costing me money....

All this positive chatter had me curious to try this pedal and mine was delivered today. Had been using an Alesis microcomp of all things for years and like the pedal form of this box as it will suit my very limited effects chain nicely. Looking forward to working with it.
