new Markbass MB58R P 12" cab

Just got a MB58R 121 P (the one with the ceramic drivers) and I played it briefly with my trusty Nordstrand Audio Nordy VP5 and my Gallien Krueger 800RB.
What a great sound!!!
I was looking for a lightweight ceramic driven 2x12" cab and decided to try the 121 first.
I will order a second 121P NOW!
That's nice. We have yet to see any new MarkBass product in the USA.

That will make a brilliant rig. If l didn't still have my pair of NY121P I'd be interested in these as lightweight alternatives to my Bergantino single 12 cabs. I'm still confused by the new MB58R range of cabs but am I correct that this has a non adjustable piezo tweeter?
Thank you.

It has the piezo, yes. But it is switchable: -6db, -9db, -15db and off. The -15db is perfect for me with the GK. Let's see how it sounds with the Mesa Walkabout.
As opposed to the CGI pics, the woofer is actually black and does not have the usual yellow "thing" (no idea how you call it in english).

That's interesting. Are the 12" speaker and tweeter both black? And by "thing" do you mean the Markbass logo? Perhaps you could post a photo for us? After all "a picture is worth a thousand words" in any language.

The tweeter is still yellow. Otherwise I would pop off the logo and go "full undercover" :) By "thing" I was referring to the yellow ring (membrane?) on the woofer.
My bathroom scale says 12,2kg (26.8lbs).... the sticker said 13.2kg.
Here are the pics. I like the fact that they not longer use a pot for the tweeter.

Thank you.
Apparently the "Energy" series is closest to the "older" MB cabs.
The "Pure" series is said to have a more "HiFi" tweeter.
The P series has a piezo tweeter and ceramic woofers.
In the german online magazine "bonedo" there was a comparative review of the 102 cabs (all 3 series) but it is in german:
Markbass MB58R 102 P/Energy/Pure Test/Direktvergleich - Bonedo

The only audio/video comparison I found, is this: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=markbass+mb58r+102
But it does not tell a lot (maybe due to the audio compression?)

In video they both sound excellent and similar; I prefer 'in that vid' the Pure Cab; sounds a bit more coherent and controlled on lower notes but I can understand many liking the familiar sound of 'P'

We call the “thing” a ‘cone’ ;)
Thx for the report! I’ve been using MB amps / cabs since 2009… love ‘em

Google translate works very well with the German-English translations. That was good article having some sound samples too, however I did not find almost any difference between speakers. Maybe tweeters were not represented very well in recording?

I read the article some weeks ago and was wondering if the ceramic vs neo speaker compression thing is applicable only in this case or universally?

Yes they do.
Even, being two same cabs, they do the GK bi-amp thing very well.
Next week, there will be the first band rehearsal.
I had an 800RB years ago. I much preferred running the 2 cabinets full range. Then both speakers receive the same power instead of 100/210 watts as I recall? Just my opinion. You do you, but I got better results skipping the biamp and giving each cab 150 watts.

FWIW, MB responded to my question about this by saying they will be available in the US in January. With a week left in the month, I have my doubts, but looks like it should be soon.

I think I will get one of this and the new GR 112 and do a shootout…
I'd really like to read your Shootout!
Always curious about the Italian contenders.
