My name's Mandie, I'm still waiting for my bass, I should get it early this week. I've been wanting to play the bass for years!! I never really had the thought to play any low instrument in band, ended up playing the flute (on my 7th yr). Now I don't have the air power(I've tried) so I thought bass, I've always had this thing for low notes! I plan on teaching myself with a lil help from a friend or 2, so if anyone has any pointers or anything at all to help, give me a buzz or somethin!

Bassists 
are cool. I chose bass cause of this reason. Those who choose bass are the humble and/or crazy members of a band, most people want to play guitar or sing. Through these aspects of ourselves, we put honesty into music, we reach the bones of people... and vibrate the marrow out of 'em. I want to reach the soul of music and if I get good enough, the souls of people. That is what I will to do.
Primus rock, Red Hot Chili Peppers rock, Smashing Pumpkins rock. 50 cent is an a$$ who has no talent
and has anyone noticed he sounds like Ozzy's "talking" voice when he "raps"? Rap is generally shallow and stupid, eg "Get Rich or Die Tryin". Pop is all bull****(excluding those bands that keep their integrity though becoming popular). Singers and guitarist are not the most important members of a band, though all musicans' level of involvement depends on talent. I dont like songs about cars or the person who wrote the song, or their stuff.
I think people should be insulted more on television, to keep them honest, without b!tchin too much. And those who are insulted should swallow their pride.
Feel free to disagree and make it very known.

You know I have no idea of what kind of bass I'm getting, I'm just glad I'm getting one!! It didn't come today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to check!

I just started playing bass recently. I got a red bc rich nj series Warlock bass recently and I'm ready to unleash a tirade of metal madness on the world! I've played drums for a few years and guitar for about ten yrs. I can do some fairly technical things on guitar and I'm trying to translate that stuff to bass (sweeping, tapping etc..) but it's hard! It's way harder to play fast on bass it seems, it really makes you admire some of those billy sheehan solos.
oh, and as you can probably tell by my username and signature I'm really into motley crue. Nikki Sixx is my favorite bassist and favorite rock star in general. I know he doesn't have the most blazing technique but he rocks!

some additional info... im really into chilli peppers (flea is my fave bassist) and RATM (tim is second fave) i like funky bass lines, and alt rock and the likes. My first set up is a Peavey Milestone III with a Peavey Microbass amp

Anyway! Obviously a bass player,(working towards "Bass Master") Started playing upright in orchestra in 5th grade. My "skills" then poured over to the electric plank. Learning ever since. 17 yrs now. Whew!! Currently not in a working band. Recording projects with friends, church, and just general jam sessions.
I look forward to giving my 2 cents here and learning a bunch also.

Lately I've been working with a progressive metal band. We've been tossing around some ideas, but as of yet we/they don't have a name yet, but that's just a minor detail in the grand scheme of thing I suppose.

I am a new guy here, so I suppose I should make a little post about myself. I am 24, have been playing about 2 yrs., only 1 yr seriously though.
I play anywhere from 2-6 sets a week, all in different praise and worship bands through my church. We have played such a diverse range of styles, anthing from straight acoustic sets, to alternative style worship, to throwing in some reggae beats. Playing on a praise band has really been stretching as a player, because you must be ready for anything at any time, and you also can change drummers as much as every other set. Needless to say it keep you on your toes. I would rate my skill as a little above beginner, (basically I hold down the beat, stay locked in and dance around only once in a while.... example, Adam Clayton on Joshua Tree), but am learning a lot and improving rather quickly as of late. I guess I made it over that proverbial "Hump". anyway, sorry for the long post....

Hello all, I've been hanging around Talkbass on and off for about 2 or 3 years now and just thought it was finally time to post. (Don't ask me why it took so long because I have no idea, I guess I'm shy). I'm 32 years old. I have a wife of 8 years and 2 children (7 & 13mo). I am a pharmacist by day and a bass player by night. I play in a local Branson style country music show as well as sub with other bands who need help. I also volunteer at my local church wherever God may need me to be. I enjoy playing music (bass, of course), recording, singing, songwriting, spending time with family, hunting and fishing. For those of you just dropping in here at Talkbass, please believe me; you will not find another site with more knowlegeable, articulate, kind and virtuoso players on or off the internet. Talkbass is a great resource to you younger folks. Don't squander your time here, listen to what these guys have to say. They've been there and they've done it. You can learn alot from the pros here. Well that's all I have to say for now. Hopefully, I won't go so long without posting next time
