Hi everyone,
I guess it's kinda late for me to be introducing myself now, since I've joined a while ago and since then have gone mad and posted about a dozen posts.
Well, my name's Min Goo, and I'm a South Korean currently living in Bedfordshire, England. I've been playing bass for about a year and a half now, ever since I decided to choose between guitar and bass by flipping a coin.
I've been in a band for about 9 months now as well, and we play Muse/Blink 182/The Strokes-influence rock/indie music. I'm also getting a metal band together, and am considering getting a funk band together as well. Amidst of all this, I'm kinda trying to find my own style.... So far, I'm quite heavily influenced by Flea, as most novice bassists are, and Chris Wolstenholme, me being a Muse-fanboy.
I listen to a lot of different music. I like a bit of rock, indie and some metal, but I'm not hugely into 'heavy' music. My favourite bands include - Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes, Taking Back Sunday, etc. Lately, I've been getting into different kinds of music, like funk, fusion, soul and stuff. I like a bit of Marcus Miller, Ray Charles, a bit of Motown, etc.
Currently, i'm playing a Dame Fall And Paul 250, which is a Korean bass with 2 passive soapbars and a VERY nice neck.
I used to own a Westfield P-Bass, which I liked because of the simplicity of it. I sold that for 50 pounds just because the brother of the girl I used to like wanted to start bass lol.
I'm saving up for a Cort GB94, which I've been informed isn't very ambitious for a third bass, but I'm going with my vow to only buy Korean basses...

Been picking it back up a little, finally decided to take the plunge and buy a bass. Settled on an Ibanez SR300DX (the slim neck is better for me right now, since my 42 year old fingers aren't quite limber enough yet). Found a guy next town over that gives lessons, might check him out.
On the personal side, I'm married, 3 kids, a dog and 2 ferrets, I live just outside Nashville, TN, and I work in the engineering department of one of our local TV stations.
Well, I guess that's about it. I'm looking forward to learning what we're all here about; holding down the bottom end!

Hey everyone, I'm Mike, 29 y/o bass player from the Detroit area. I've been playing for about 15 years on and off, coming off a hand injury that kept me out of the loop for a few years. Fortunately, I'm back in the saddle again, ready to rumble!
I'm a metal head, with a lot of rock and blues and a bit of jazz, country and Top 40 thrown in. Major influences are a basic "who's who" of metal bassists: Cliff, Harris, Geezer, etc., as well as Nikki, Duff, Geddy, Lynott, and a whole slew of others.
My current rig consists of a couple MIM Fender Jazz 4's, a MIM Fender P 4, running into a Bass Podxt Live. I'm using a couple different amps for different situations, including an Ampeg BA500 2X10 combo and a Fender Bassman 100 combo. I also run the BA500 straight, or through either an SVT-410HLE or an SVT-18.
Looking forward to good reads and conversation!

My name is Dan and I am 21 in september. Im in my final year of my Bach. of Music at WAAPA in Perth Western Australia. I've done the first 3 years of the degree in Jazz Performance (Drums) and in my final year i have specialized to do a B.Mus, Composition(jazz).
Drums is my bread winner. I teach several days a week and gig roughly once or twice a fortnight. Later this year i am on the road with an underground christian rock group call Youth Alive and will be touring UK, LA and NY. hopefully OK and TEXAS too.... Cant wait!!!
Bass to me is my second love, but the love is strong. i practice bass more then drums these days, as i find it helps me merge my sense of rhythm with my desire to have harmonic resposibility.
I write for jazz orchestra (std big band+10pce WW+3horns+tuba) as apart of my degree. its hard.
I occasionally play at my church, i am a vegetarian and i have an amazing girlfriend. have an original rock band too, and do lots of trio playing.

Music is everything to me & I've learned over a dozen instruments or so. Bass & Guitar are my primary instruments though. I average around 200 shows a year between all the different bands I play in. My 2 main gigs are bass related. The first is a rock cover band called Link Removed. You name it, we play it! The next is a Seattle-based Alice In Chains Tribute band called Link Removed. For lead guitar gigs, I'm in between bands, but my past includes Link Removed & most recently, Link Removed. I've also played drums in several bands as well as sax in a few jazz bands. Needless to say, I keep very busy.
Oh yeah, I was the first person to have a dedicated website strictly for 7-string guitars. Anyone who plays a 7 or 8 string guitar has a little bass player hiding inside them. We like the low end!
I'm also a moderator on the Invalid Link Removed Discussion Forums. Besides 7-string guitars, it has a nice forum for Extended Range Guitars & Basses as well. Juaqo III-X & Garry Goodman (both badass bassists) are contributing members there.

hey my names Ben i used to want to play guitar but realized how much cool the bass is. so for my 14th b-day i got the squire rumble pack with i still play threw (im 16 now) i hope to soon have a esp f-404 and an acoustic. i like to play metal, rock, funk, a lil jazz, and anything that rocks the bass, i live in south jersey and im current in the brain draining process of getting a band together.

I've been a bedroom player for many years. I consider myself a bass player first, but can play guitar to a certain degree.
About a year and a half ago I started recording rock instrumentals at home. I started simple with small 8-track digital recorder (Zoom MRS-8). With the positive feedback I've received from these early recordings I became encouraged to get more serious about it and progressed down the home studio slippery slope. Now I'm pretty much neck-deep into this recording thing and desire to get as good at as I can.

Hi! I'm new here. My name is Ned Riley, I live in Melbourne, and, like everybody else here, I play bass guitar. My current setup is a Greg Bennett Fairlane through a Drive 30-watt combo. I hope to upgrade to a better setup, say, with Fender/MusicMan/G&L/Yamaha basses.
What I don't believe in using is signature models. What's the point? Most of the time, you can get the same thing for cheaper, and you don't always have to parrot other artists.
Also, I'm not big on really high end equipment. In my country, I can't find anything affordable by Ampeg, which is why I'm going for either Ashdown or Gallien-Krueger. Ashdown makes fairly cheap amps, but Gallien-Krueger is used by Flea.
My influences include Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order), Tim Commerford (RATM/Audioslave), Justin Chancellor (Tool), and Chris Wolstenholme (Muse).
As well as said bands, I also like Weird Al Yankovic, the White Stripes, Silverchair, the Foo Fighters, the Strokes, Metallica (early days before Load), the Rolling Stones, Beck, Coldplay, Blur, Incubus, Radiohead, Regurgitator, Queens of the Stone Age, Pantera, the Killers, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother, Franz Ferdinand and Oasis.
I'm pretty big on music videos as well. I really like the Director's Label series of DVD's that have come out recently (I'd like to see Smells Like Teen Spirit on a future release, but if Rock DJ appears, my collection will have to be incomplete). Perhaps my favourite videos of all time include Wonderwall, Black Bugs, Smack my Bitch Up, Cochise, Weapon of Choice and some other cool ones.
I have some musical connections in my family. My dad used to play in a band during the late 70's. And also, he produced the debut record for a band called the Jetsonnes, which later went on to become one of Australia's greatest bands of all time, the Hunters and Collectors. Of course, his sister's been more successful, as Kim from the hit TV series Kath and Kim.
Music aside, I really like dogs (I have a boxer and a whippet) and I sometimes like to do impressions as well. I like to do impressions from Family Guy, Beavis and Butthead, South Park, the Young Ones, Red Dwarf and Little Britain.
I look forward to meeting new people through this site, and hopefully updating my equipment.

well, half of this post was allready in the effects forum, but now I discovered this thread. Talkbass is an incredibly vast source of information (and a direct road to deadly amounts of GAS)
Anyway, a short introduction: After 8 years of silence, I picked up my bass again last year (lived abroad and moved around a lot, and couldn't carry much gear with me). With an old friend of mine, I have some experimental improv project going on. (Link Removed. What we do is, we basically toy around a lot with sound and effects. When we just started out I borrowed most of my effects, and then I bought a few very cheap behringer effects. But I've become increaslingly disgruntled with the sound of those effects, and now I want upgrade my effects one by one. Alas, I'm on a tight budget.

Greatings all at Talkbass! My name is Paul.
I've been browsing online bass forums for the past week now, and this one has drawn me in. Here's my story:
It all started last Saturday in Camden, London. I went out for a quiet drink my mate Riki, and thats how the wierdness always starts!
We got royaly drunk and Riki (who's already in a band) told me I really should become his new bassists.....Hummmm I've always wanted to join a band, but I can't play bass!
The next morning I woke up with a stonker of a hangover, and a distant memory of telling Riki I would learn bass! Woops! But as the morning pregressed the thought became more appealing! And then at around midday I got a phone call from an old friend, we chatted away for a while and then she asked me if I knew anyone who wanted her old bass as it was just sat there cluttering her room...........I was gobsmacked! Me! I said! I want a bass! I told her the story like I'm telling you all now. We both have a strong belief in fate, and that this must be it!
So I went round to collect the bass, left a bottle of tequila as a thank you and that's where I now stand!
All I need now is a tuner - A Korg Ga - 30 seems to be highly recommended here, some time and plenty of patience!
I'll keep you guys updated on my progress as I go, I realise that I'll be knowhere good enough to join any band for a while yet, but it gives me a goal
Oh and any advise on a decent but cheap bass amp to get me started would be greatly appreciated too!

We got royaly drunk and Riki (who's already in a band) told me I really should become his new bassists.....Hummmm I've always wanted to join a band, but I can't play bass!
The next morning I woke up with a stonker of a hangover, and a distant memory of telling Riki I would learn bass! Woops! But as the morning pregressed the thought became more appealing! And then at around midday I got a phone call from an old friend, we chatted away for a while and then she asked me if I knew anyone who wanted her old bass as it was just sat there cluttering her room...........I was gobsmacked! Me! I said! I want a bass! I told her the story like I'm telling you all now. We both have a strong belief in fate, and that this must be it!
So I went round to collect the bass, left a bottle of tequila as a thank you and that's where I now stand!
All I need now is a tuner - A Korg Ga - 30 seems to be highly recommended here, some time and plenty of patience!
I'll keep you guys updated on my progress as I go, I realise that I'll be knowhere good enough to join any band for a while yet, but it gives me a goal
Oh and any advise on a decent but cheap bass amp to get me started would be greatly appreciated too!

Dear talk bass members: My name is Marshall and I am not real new but I still consider myself a novice....I stopped taking bass lessons about two years ago and was without a bass for about a year and a half ( I sold my Yamaha bass and amp and it was the worst decision I made in a long time....sometimes it takes awhile to get the ax back)....well I am going to start lessons again at World of Music in Erie Pa and my new teacher's name is Mark and I will have my first lesson with him on Sat Aug 4th at 10:30 am and I cannot wait....it will be well worth the money....my goal is to be semi pro and a songwriter in 3 to 5 years from now......I am sure the lessons will help and I am excited to take them 
and I hope to take a "practice pill" and make my lessons pay off....thanks for listening to my post...hope to update my progress in the future.....sincerely your newbie Marshall
