Seattle Husband & Wife team needs Bass player for Tracks.
Hello all, We are Jeff and Maureen looking for a Bass player fretted and fettles with a solid sense of holding the bottom end down and simple enough so the same bass player can over dub melodic lead bass lines. A sense of when not to play is important but you need to have the skill to be busy melodically when needed. Songs are recorded and production schedule is in place at the studio. We own the studio!
Challenging music but not heavy fusion ether. All material is of the spiritual nature. Jeff plays Drums and Maureen plays Piano. Link Removed

I'm playing bass for six months. I used to play a classical guitar and a piano too. I love jazz, blues and motown sounds. I play a BB414 in wine-red with Sadowsky flatwounds on it.
Some of my favourite bassists are: Dave Holland, Charlie Haden, Charlie Mingus, Christian Mc Bride, Kamil Erdem, Ismail Soyberk, Nurhat Sensesli, Alper Yilmaz, Richard Bona and (of course!) Marcus Miller...
By the way, my nick comes from a scene of the movie "The Party" which is one of the best movies of Peter Sellers (R.I.P.)...

Hi, I am Cisco. I have been playing bass on and off since the mid-80's, mostly off. I bought a new to me bass 2 years ago and have been playing a lot lately. I play for my Church probably 2 to 3 weekends a month. I play a Yamaha TRB-6 and have a mid-80's Dean Hollywood 4 string as my backup.
When I am not playing I also run sound. Been doing that for about 12 years now.

My name is Marc. I have returned to the bass world after a 20+ year break. I also play the saxophone, which is my main instrument. At least for now... My father in law is a working jazz singer who has introduced me to a lot of heavy guys in the jazz world over the past few years. He is going to be 81 in a few months and an inspiration. Anyway, his bass player said that I should take up the bass again since there is always a shortage of good bass players.
I like to play classic rock mostly and dabble in jazz. I find it to be very relaxing and a channel to shoot my creative energies through.

Hello all. NYC Bass Head here. I picked up the bass about a year ago after spending years doing electronic dance music stuff. I like to play very danceable energetic music so my influences tend to be disco, funk, and house oriented w/ a bit of a rock edge.

Im an American bassist living in Singapore.
Ive played bass and have been in bands since 1970.
I learned to read bass clef in 1966 playing trombone and later tuba.
My dominant playing is 5 string fretless, on a Warwick Streamer and a Tacoma (Acoustic)
I also play fretted - particularily when I sing (which can be often). My mates complain my right hand can get a wee distracted when I sing - but of course I dont think so..bastards..
My latest bass - I have 8 - is a Casady fretted 4. I bought it without trying it first. I expected it to sound as variation off an EB2 - hollow/tuba-like - but it is much different. If anything it sounds more like a PBass - but with great tone - especially from F to Bb range. If I have any complaint - it is too pretty. Im afraid to take it out and get a scratch on it.
As to reading your forums - many of you have a tendency for a quick one off..it would be more interesting to read what lies behind your comments.
Lastly - my objective in joining is to talk with experienced bassists, like myself, and to aid the newbies to avoid our mistakes..

It's depressing not doing something you love, so recently I've started playing again.
I own an Aria IGB68 and some sort of Yamaha RBX.
Musically, I'm very broad. I love jazz, particularly bebob, and then what came after it, Kind of Blue, Sunday at the Village Vanguard, etc.
Funk is awesome. Larry Graham... Bootsy... brilliant musicians...
I also love arty indie stuff from England and New York... So I really dig players like Tina Weymouth and Andy Rourke (The Smiths) who can mix that with groove music...
Heaps of rock guys as well... Entwistle, JPJ, Sting, Mike Mills (REM), Flea, Timmy Commerford are some randoms that spring to mind.
Solo players? I like guys that use their technique to make creative music, as opposed to elevator music. Love Jaco Pastorius, Michael Manring, Mark Egan.

hey i just noticed this thread now. i am a new guy here. i've been a memeber for a little while but just made my first post today. my name is jake. i'm 21, i've been playing since i was like 11. it doesnt seem that long haha. i started playing classic rock covers with my friends (cream, lynyrd skynyrd, led zeppelin, pink floyd, etc.) in middle school. in highschool i was in a band that played classic rock type stuff (but all originals) and i even filled in for a nu-metal band (haha). since then i've been in a couple of serious bands (a couple of metalcore band, a black metal band, and now i'm in a hardcore band). yeah i love to play the heavy stuff, but don't get me wrong i have a love and respect for pretty much every type of music. if you want to check out my current band it's Link Removed and my personal myspace is Link Removed anyways that's me... and i just realized i typed a lot so sorry if you read that whole thing and i wasted your time haha.

do not no which one to go to have a fender jazz bass sunburst in color every place i go to it is not not same i am 64 yrs have had it as new same stringsstill on it looks like1962 but has 20 fretts with square mother of pearl not dots i still play came in black case orange velvet inside can you tell me where to go in forum thank you ken1I can't help but notice that the ranks of TalkBass increase day by day . I'm 24 and I'm from Las Vegas. I've been playing for about 6 years now and I love it. I was never a g%$#@*ist so I like to think I haven't been contaminated. I have 4 basses; a fender jazz (first and favorite) an Ibanez ergodyne, dean 5 string, and a cort fretless. I'll play anything I can. My favorite is locking in the groove and chilling in the pocket. my older brother is a drummer and it's great having someone so close to develop interplay with.
My name is chris. I live in Rockford, IL. I got an ibanez starter bass kit for christmas (I told my parents that's all i needed for christmas and I would be content.) 'tis blue. My friend, who frequents this site, and is also named Chris, set it up for me to eliminate the fretbuzz it came with, and he put stainless steel strings on. He said they are better, and they would help my fingers callus faster.
I took beggining acoustic guitar this year (I am a senior in highschool), as it was the only class available that introduced an instrument. It was my first experience with music. I had always wanted to pick up an instrument, better late than never. I knew right off the bat I didn't want to just play guitar, because I'm not one for the mainstream, as fun as guitar is. I originally wanted to play piano so learning music theory would be easier, but my best friend started playing, and I didn't really want to copy him.
It wasn't untill I got into Chili peppers and Primus that I wanted to play bass. I liked the music of primus, but I didn't understand the relevancy of the bass, like why it was so special...Mind you I was blind...er, deaf to music at the time. Than I saw a video of Claypool playing. X_X what the hell is that man doing to that instrument, and why does it sound so damned cool? After learning all about slapping and popping from wikipedia, I watched every flea, larry graham, wooten, and claypool video youtube had to offer, and other misc. ones.
So yeah...that's it. Does anybody know chris? I don't know his username here...He built his own 7 and 8 string (Last i checked he hasn't installed pickups yet). He plays in a hardcore/metal band (God forbid I get the genre wrong and he'd kill me) called Self Fulfilled prophecy. He introduced me to bass. But that's it. I look forward to developing my musical abilities as much as possible, and this site has helped me so far. Peace.
