Are you talking about some sort of cabinet emulation present at the DI output?

It would be power tube emulation in the power amp section, as opposed to the real tube in the preamp.

Remember that the tube you're thinking of is in the preamp section of the amp. The emulation is for the power section to emulate power tubes. I believe this info is in the manual as well. If I recall to earlier in the thread from Andy that putting the amp at 2 ohms running an 8 ohm cab, the damping control is a little more pronounced with the reduced output wattage. I could be very wrong with this last sentence but that's how I remember interpreting his explanation.

This amber LED indicates that the power amp is nearing maximum power and is entering the soft clip/limit output tube emulation mode. Soft clip/limit output tube emulation mode mimics many of the desirable characteristics of tube amp output stage overdrive while eliminating the common solid state clipping artifacts. There is approximately 6dB of range on this circuit, driving beyond this, of course, will cause gradual output stage clipping. It’s acceptable for this amplifier to operate in output stage overdrive mode (if that’s the tone you are after) with the LED flashing roughly 25% of the time on

I breezed by that part about the soft clip/limit output tube emulation mode. I think this is the sound I like about this. I'm not a heavy overdrive guy but there's something about the amp that I do like and I think that it's this power amp tube emulation. This reminds of the good stuff I liked about my B15n without the low wattage output. And that 2-ohm thing is good to know and play with, as I have a cab that could benefit by a few fewer watts

Bebop, you’re giving me the heebees with all the knobs counterclockwise like that maing! Gotta give my WD a hug tonight let it knows everything’s ok. Congrats on the purchase man. It’s some stunning engineering. Love mine so much. Especially the post preamp/EQ DI.

Mine came that way too, all controls all the way down. I was so eager to give it a listen that I paid it no mind, just hooked it up to my cab, plugged in, and started playing. I'm listening and my heart sank. I thought, this thing sounds terrible! Thin mud! What the?!?

Then I came to my senses, opened my eyes, and set it flat, and started to fall in love!

Maybe they send them out that way to show how incredibly powerful the tone controls are. Maybe it's to make you realize that you really SHOULD read the manual. Maybe it's just them having a laugh at us eager beavers. Who knows, but it was truly an eye-rolling moment!

By the way, I LOVE the time emulation! I frequently set mine back to the 70s.

I've read the manual a few times. I pick up different things everytime that makes me experiment with eq and gain settings.

I end up on direct mailing lists. Today a mag shows up that is obviously the result of some old list I ended up on.

Anyway, it's "MMR" (Musical Merchandise Review). I pop it open for a browse. I notice that it has a "dealers choice" awards, their own contest, for merchants to vote in categories related to their stock. Looking through the list, I notice Mesa is a nominee for "Amplifier Line of the Year".... I'm not a dealer or merchant, or subscriber to this mag, but wonder if this is regarding the Subway line.

Anyone? If so, congrats on the nod and good luck with the votes, Andy.

Also noticed QSC for "Sound Reinforcement Line of the Year", so shout to Mr.Lee as well.

I don't mean to dominate this thread but, I just plugged my Kay M1 (Underwood pickup in phase, old Spirocore Weich, pizz ) Into the WD 800 set at the 2 ohms setting into a David Eden CX 110 the old coaxial one and then tried the Aguilar GS 112 and...

I thought I was plugged into the B15n. This thing IMHO makes my upright shine!
It sounds good even through the 110. With the HPF and power amp damping and 2-ohm setting
the 110 holds up and seems not to be stressin' out
Might be my new mini rig of doom

I went to an old band reunion last night. They couldn't believe the tone I was getting, even the drummer liked it!

Yep, I've been trying heads lately. The big brands we know and to me, a lot of them, to my ear, sound about the same and again, to me. This is the first time I've found something that brings something new to the plate

The thing I am happy about is the fact I bought it blind. I was ready to send it back if it sounded that same as the rest. Then the validation from others that it wasn't just me hearing quality of tone. Not only can I hear the difference, but I can also feel the difference

To me, this is fo shizzle my nizzle!

My question was to Agedhorse.
I noticed I had flipped the switch on the back of my WD 800 from 8ohms to the 4/2ohmns setting
but, I was running an 8ohmn speaker. Will that cause damage or harm?

As others have stated you did no damage whatsoever to the amp or cab. All you did was limit the power output to around 300 Watts versus the 400 Watt full potential you had available. It is actually a really cool feature that can serve a number of useful purposes as you can probably imagine.

I am 100% sure of this answer as I was a beta tester on the WD-800 program and helped with the development of the user manual.

Now I know I said it sound like my B15 but It may not to most. It's more of a feel thing to me. Let me take a pic...

Keep in mind, this was for my upright a few minutes ago into a 1x10 speaker. I think I was using a similar setting last night for my electrics only differents was the para mids were set flat and the HPF was set lower.
YMMV...
