New mesa subway amps and cabs!

I picked up this 1X15 cab to go with my D800+ last month. What a great sounding and flexible set-up! Sounds great with either my Rick or P-bass with minimal knob tweaking. Usually just a touch of "Voicing" and/or mid tweak between the basses and that's it. Now I just need to find a 2X10 (and to get over rotator cuff surgery).

BTW, the Line-6 sitting on top is just a tuner now. :D

Sorry for reviving an older post, but im considering getting the Subway 2X15, and the logo size has been bothering me too. I think your logo swap looks much better (for my preference). How did you install? Was drilling needed?
Also, is the original logo simply attached with screws?

Yes, drilling was involved. Two very little holes. Measure three times before drilling.

Indeed, you have one of the Cool Tube preamps. This is a project that Scott (who now designes for Jeff at Genzler) and I worked for Takamine on maybe 10 years ago. The concept was well proven but the goal was to make it a practical, commercially manufacturable high volume product which we did starting with the model CTP-2. Takamine is a great company that was under former employer KMC Music back then.

When people ridicule me about operating tubes at different than "standard" 300 volt topologies, and suggest that I obviously don't know anything about tubes, this product really stands out as a glaring example of those know-it-all critics not understanding the excruciating amount of detail that exists within the math that makes up the space between the lines on the data sheets. There are so many things that can be done with tubes, this product just scratches the surface... AND it runs on 4 x AA batteries too!!!

Hi Agedhorse.

I saw on the Acoustic Guitar Forum (where I am not currently a member) that you were involved in the CTP-2 preamp design. I thought I'd search Talkbass to see if I could find anything and up popped this several years old thread. I'm wondering if you might be able to help me?

A friend has asked me to look at his Takamine TAN15C which has the CTP-2 in it. It often makes a 'rustling' noise when it is plugged in. I've disconnected, cleaned and reconnected all the plugs and cleaned the end pin jack, but it is still doing it. If you drop the volume on the preamp to zero, the noise goes away, so I'm thinking it isn't a problem in the wiring from the preamp to the end pin jack (unless its a problem in the power on switch circuit). If you unplug the input from the transducer the noise is still there so I'm thinking it isn't the transducer or its wiring, so it must be in the preamp. Sometimes if you unplug it and plug it back in the rustling stops.

I've read a few comments about the high noise floor of the CTP-2, but I can't imagine it would have been shipped making this much noise, and as I said, sometimes it doesn't do it. I've also read comments about these preamps being high maintenance and not particularly long lasting. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on what might be going on here. I'm reluctant to give it back to my friend still not working properly, but replacing the preamp is a pricey exercise, even if I downgrade it to a simpler one (CT4D being one option).

I realize that your involvement in the design of this preamp was a long time ago, but I thought is was worth asking when I saw your username on the other forum. I always appreciate your input to discussions here on Talkbass.
