Hey Todd. Enjoy your posts. I miss hearing from you on the Roscoe thread. Sounds like you're still enjoying the Fodera.
I appreciate the reviews/demos that you've posted on the Mesa heads. I know that you've moved on from the D800 and D800+ to the new WD800 but it was a combination of your YouTube video and the Mesa video (and some of the various posts on this thread) that sold me on trying a D800+. Quite a few years ago I owned a Mesa M-Pulse 600 and a Walkabout but these days I'm really preferring the quicker attack of the non-tube preamps. I may change my mind after gigging out some with the D800+ but I'm thinking that it'll be right in my wheelhouse. It's due to arrive tomorrow. I'll be paring it with a Berg HT112-ER and a Berg HD112. Really looking forward to taking it for a ride.

The 800+ is a excellent amp and it is one of two amps I have owned that I would own again in a heartbeat.

I’m (thankfully) in possession of my new WD-800 as of Saturday. A couple of weeks earlier than they quoted me.
Long & McQuade Head office in Toronto only had 6 on order originally, so maybe they’re sold out and waiting for the second batch.

Funny, I had my Two10 in the CL’s for a while and only got a couple of bites in the States and I really wanted to keep it in Canada for just that reason.
Then I got the PF50T and it was game over for selling it. (For now as long as I have the PF50T).
The BBII horn is not your typical tweeter, tho’.

Ha! I could go into gory details, but suffice it to say that I describe years 17-22 as the "lost years." Prior to that I was playing multiple competitive sports, and then after that as well. Couple of nasty bicycle crashes (raced road and mountain back I grad school), couple of nasty motorcycle crashes, and you've got a body that isn't quite hitting on all cylinders
The D800+ is a great head, and I've now got the preamp pedal version for gigs where I run direct. I've also messed with it running into the aux of the D800 and I get a ton of flexibility.
That said, the WD800 doesn't feel particularly tubey or soft to me. I usually associate tubes with sag and round tone, but the WD800 has nice edge running flat, then you can really push things around. The D800+ isn't far behind on flexibility, but the WD800 starts out a bit more edgy, and the passive mid and damping are really cool. When I had the D800+ I didn't appreciate the variable HPF as much as I do now, and I think that is a great feature. On the D800+, the interactions of the deep switch, voicing, HPF and bass control give a ton of low-end options.
Should pair really well with the Bergs.

You know I used the high pass filter much more than I thought I would starting from the D800. I play Bergs primarily. The Voicing features on this amp just make sense. For years I was an Eden or Demeter guy maybe once in awhile slum it a little with some GK. I'm following your lead with the 800+ pedal UNLESS ANDY IS DESIGNING A WD800 PEDAL. Wink Wink.
I'm seriously considering selling my SVT CL and NV610t and picking up the new Mesa 2x15. I'm loving my D800+ and there are not many places I play where i need the big firepower of the SVT and 610. I've got an AK Hathor 2x12 for my smallish cab. I'm just wondering how much difference there would be between the Mesa 2x15 and the AK 2x12. Hmmm.
I have been told my WD800 is en route from The wharehouse in Toronto so hoping to see it later this week or early next week. I sure hope that is the case as waiting until mid March will be torture!
How would you contrast the SVT CL from the D-800+? I would think they are very different, but it would be interesting to hear from someone who has used both.
This has been my impression of Mesa heads in general - that even the all-tube designs remain faster and more articulate sounding than any other brand.
I managed to snag one of the WD-800's that was on the floor in Markham so it's on its way to me as we speak
. It'll be paired with 2 SW115's. Don't think it'll be here in time for my Saturday gig but my fingers are crossed...
Totally modular with single Bag End 12” and 15” - 8 ohm cabinets.
With this head I can actually run all 4 @ 2 ohms which I will do at a few of the venues I play throughout the upcoming year.
Lots of options.. 2 x 12 - 2 x 15 - 1x12 & 1x15 or just single cabs.
The 15’s have neo drivers and the 12’s have ceramic magnets..which I don’t think should be a problem.
I’ve been playing through these cabs with my different basses and the WD-800. I’m very happy with the results at home volume levels and am looking forward to hearing them cranked up.

Yes, they are very, very different. The SVT has much more slam and heft but much slower in the attack. It definitely has that big tube amp feel. It can be more grindy as well. Plus it's 85lbs.
The D800+ is quite a bit more versatile but doesn't have that fat thick tone like the SVT. It's much more articulate but you can dial some of that out with the voicing control and reducing the treble. Oh, and it's really light.
Every gig I play has a decent PA and stage volume is kept fairly low. I've also been using a Shiftline Olympic tube preamp for all my DI needs so the amp is just for stage volume. The big SVT just isn't practical for me anymore. I figure I can use a Mesa 2x15 for the bigger stages and my Hathor 2x12 for the smaller ones.
