New model from Carvin - retro

I think it's a GREAT move on Carvin's part.As everyone on here knows,I'm not ashamed to show my love for Carvin's products, their basses especially.I didn't realize 'till I started hanging on this site that,"Hey!!Carvin needs to offer EMG,Duncan,Barts,DeLano pups and preamps,BESIDES(!)their own.IMHO,I think Carvin's sales would HONESTLY double, esp. in the bass guitar dept.

Oh,I'll take one w/out a 'guard and no dots on the maple(birdseye!)board. And the creme pickup covers????I love'em!!Can you say 70's/DiMarzio???

Bring on the 5er!!

As long as you like the Icon, I'm cool with that . . . just kidding with ya.:smug:

Hey, I'm gonna get a couple of Icon 4s - a fretted and a fretless. Maple neck-throughs with walnut stringers, and maple bodies. Both with that bright white finish, black hardware and ebony boards. Mother of pearl fretboard blocks on the fretted, and Carvin's custom "hard as nails" epoxy coating on the unlined fretless board.

Clean, contemporary and high-tech. That's my thing...

Not bad...I like it. But I still really want an ICON 4. Should I splurge?

The Carvin store in Sacramento is only about a mile from my house so I drop by to ogle gear fairly often. The Icons are sweet basses. The pickups are a bit too high-fi for me, but they can always be swapped out. Fantastic construction, and they play and look great. Apart from my Stambaughs, Carvins may have my favorite necks.

Back to the SB4000 - I dig it. A lot.

Where I the man with the plan a Carvin, here's what I'd do with this particular bass:

1) Limit the wood options. I know this must add cost to the instrument, and I don't see sales being hurt if you don't offer all the zany body/neck wood options they do. Limit the bodies to say Swamp Ash, Alder and maybe Mahogany... and the neck to maple.

2) Offer P'up / preamp options. I'd offer four choices: Stock factory p'ups, Nordtrands, Barts, duncans.

You could lower cost of the build (which means either a lower price or money profit) and sell more basses doing this. I'd bet my paycheck on it.

Anyway, I'll find one and play it since Carvin is here in SD. I don't have even a vague need for another 4 string, but why not check it out, eh?

Thinking more about this... At this price, with this base set of features, the only reason to buy a new Fender is that the Fender will have better resale....

The [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Which will be a great price for a quality bass with your choice of woods made in the USA.

I'm really digging the new body. I always thought Carvin needed something that looked a little bit more like a J and I'm pretty excited that an ebony board is the default option.

I'm really starting to like the shape of this bass, the headstock doesn't bother too much. I just bought a brand new Icon 5'er and if the quality of this new bass is anything like the Icon's quality, it will be a great USA made bass in a very decent price range. I too would want a 5 string . . . something to think about now.:smug:

Just got back from the factory in SD. They don't have them on the showroom floor yet as they just started building them. Anyway, I wasn't there specifically to check one out and most likely they wouldn't have a lefty for me to try anyway.

None on the floors? What up wit dat??

Of course, you think they would have been pimping these at NAMM if they were ready... So maybe the web page is a test for demand...

I'll swing by the store in a few weeks to see what up.

I don't like it. Looks too dated and the upper horn is a major turn off.

I don't really like this bass either but IMO this would've been a better way to go for the retro route.

You wouldn't know they even exist walking in there. Give them a couple of weeks for sure. It was nice to give the BX500 a quick spin finally.
