New model from Carvin - retro

I just received a copy of the new Carvin catalog in the mail today. It had pictures of several configurations for the new SB series and some of them are just blowing my mind!!

In my opinion, this is the best looking bass Carvin has ever had. What scares me is the fact that I have moved away from Carvin basses over the past 2 years and this has the potential to pull me back in.:help:

Like The Godfather Part III. :D

BassDude, I can't wait until you get yours. It sounds like it'll be gorgeous. Be sure to post pics and give us a review.

I wonder how long they'll have the special $799.00 base price. (If I recall, the mag I got today says the normal direct price is $999.00, so now is a good time to order.)

This is the first time I've really GAS'ed for a Carvin, but I think they look great. Certain colors would look better with a rosewood board IMO, but the maple will look awesome on most of them. And BassDude, the maple will look great with your purple body/headstock and white pearl p/g. Congrats.

Darkstrike: Excuse my curiosity, but if the neck/fretboard on the retro will indeed be 3" wide at the body, then it'll be exactly as wide as the Ibanez BTB 5 string models (76mm = 3"), and I thought the BTB basses series is known for their wide string spacing. So, are you disappointed it will be too wide?!

I'm confused about the price: is it $1,100 or $799?

The "base" model is $799 + $69 case (you have to buy the case, no option not to). If you add *any* nice topwood, the price goes up by $160.

So an SB4000 will run you miniumum of $868 + tax/shipping. Add a festive topwood, and that goes up to $1128 + tax/shipping.

Not a bad deal at all if the bass does what it promises to...

Here's a fun option: $80 abalone block inlay... Hmmm.... Fun!

I like it. I just received the new catalog and yes.......There is a 5 string option! Seems it is a signature bass. The SB stands for Sekou Bunch. They show a pic of his with a neck pickup cover! I dig. There are also options for active electronics. I may have to get one of these.

I just got the new catalog yesterday, and I saw that Sekou Bunch is endorsing it. It must be a pretty hot Jazz style bass because I know Sekou Bunch is definitely in the Marcus Miller mold of Jazz bass thumper.:bassist:

I'm guessing they haven't actually made a five yet or the catalog would have shown one instead of just mentioning it.

Does anybody know if that pickup size is that of a standard jazz?

IE: Cannot they be replaced is where I'm going with this. :hiding:

I love it...Think it looks great, I always dug what Carvin was doing.

As I would build it, it ends up being $1008.
