New MusicMan Stingray BFR - thoughts?

That you! Fortunately I do have 11 other Stingrays. I won’t get to play until tomorrow but I’ll give a review here then. Thanks again
You now own TWELVE Stingrays but you're playing a Jazz in your avatar picture?! :wideyed: That must be one heck of a Jazz bass!

:D

Looking forward to your thoughts on the new one.

Okay... thoughts:
1. Looks nice, I suppose. I came very late to the Stingray fold - bought my 4HH Stingray Special in time for Christmas, 2019. So, I have no idea how wonderful (or not) the "vintage" stuff is...
2. As usual, there are no left handed ones. I could get a lefty 4H Stingray Special - if I wanted one, but... I don't. Never did, either. I always wanted a 4HH - and couldn't get one, 'cause they never made them - until late 2019. And, apparently, they haven't made them since...
3 The price? That wouldn't bother me, if I wanted one. It's about the same price that I paid for my SS Serek Sacramento - and slightly less than my German Hofner 500/2 Sunburst Club Bass cost (lefty 500/2's are only made in Germany - and, of course, there's a stiff Lefty Surcharge...).
4.I'm in the happy position of being able to afford just about any bass I want. But, even if I could get that bass as a lefty? The "Long Scale Bolt-on Neck" and "Active" spots in my herd are very well filled ('88 Tokai TB48 Thunderbird and '15 Custom Shop Tom Hamilton G&L ASAT Bass).So... sorry, but my herd is full up... Although, I wouldn't mind running across a lefty Gretsch White Falcon Bass...

Left Handed Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay Special HH Bass - Black

What do you mean they haven't made lefty 4HH specials since 2019? They are available in their store and have been for a while.

Oops... missed that black one. :bag: Guess my eye was looking for a Burnt Umber one - like mine - and passed over that one. Still... late 2019 was the first time they made them... But, like I said - never had a desire for a single pickup 'Ray, so... nice, but Meh...

I'd honestly just try reaching out to them and ask if they'd do the burnt amber one as an HH. It seems like a lot of the vault options are built to order after the order is placed so it'd be worth a shot just asking if they would do it.

I’ll try to do that this afternoon ;)

Are there not any official EBMM photos available?

I commend your willingness to pop it open, but there's no way I would personally risk the nitro finish on a brand new bass cracking around the control plate, unless I absolutely had to.

Over the years I've needed to remove the control plate on my translucent StingRay a few times, and indeed, had to remove the screws from the battery plate, any time I've changed the battery. But my bass has a poly finish, and is 35 years old, so the finish is robust, old, and I'd only be somewhat annoyed if cracks suddenly appeared around the screw holes, or the perimeter of the plate.

Every time I have to loosen a screw, I get the heebie-jeebies, when I hear that creaking sound the poly makes.

@Mrtoodamnsabre here you go ;)

I had to take a second look. You're right.

I have just compared the Stingray BFR on the picture with my Standard stingray. And that is true, the BFR has a bigger pickguard than what I have on my Stingray ! I did not know that at a moment (a long time ago I guess) they had changed the size of the pickguard.

Like I said; I already have a Burnt Umber '19 4HH Stingray Special. And, although I'm sure that new BFR Stingray is very nice - I have no desire for one, regardless of how many pickups it has. The one I have fills the "EBMM 4HH Stingray" spot in my herd perfectly, and is all I need, thank you... But, feel free to ask, if you want one...
