New Neck, Paint, and Pickguard

This is my 1984 Fender p bass that was originally sunburst with a rosewood fretbord. Now it has a Epi. Explorer bass neck, primer grey paint, and a new bwb pickguard. It still has the 26 year old pickups and pots. The paint took me 2 1/2 days to get off and I had to file down the neck where the screws holes are so it would fit in the neck pocket better, I did all this with no power tools. What do you guys/gals think?

The body/PU/PG combos is HAWT with that maple fretboard, but I'm not crazy about the headstock at all...I'd have gone with an all maple Fender neck from the 80s - or maybe even a 70's maple jazz neck with black or ivory inlays

Very cool though! What process did you use to paint the body? did you strip the original finish?

yes...very pretty and contrasty with the white pup :)

and Charvel? naw, not pointy enough :D,

but the standard Banannahead Epi that was very popular back in the day. I'm GLAD you chose that head/neck...why? because 500 people will tell you it should have been a Fenderhead, which would have put it in the catagory of "yep, it looks like every other Fender bass with a different paint color" :rollno:

at least it is unique.......
.

^ Sorry but I like the Pickup covers ;). I used really strong paint stripper and 60 grit sand paper with a sanding block to get rid of the finish...almost, you can see some bumps and scraches so it looks kind of ratty but I like that. Like I said in another topic it is like a ratrod. The old pickups have a awesom fuzz sound to them... YAY SLUDGE METAL!

Meh, I guess I see where you're coming from...I still think it should be a Fender headstock though :smug:

Something just plain sexy about the curves in the Fender headstock - it's like that curve between the top of a girl's ass and the small of her back...just a nice cozy place to rest your head and take a nap.

Did the old neck go bad?

It looks like you did a pretty good job, but unfortunately when I see it, it just reminds me of one of many pointy fender copies from the 80's and 90's. In fact, I think Epi did a pointy headed p-bass copy very similar to that.

Regardless, enjoy your bass. It's always great to play something that you built or asseembled yourself!

The neck doesn't look straight in the pocket. The G string is right on the edge of the board and there is a lot of room on the E string side.

Looks cool, though.

Its not straight, you caught me you damn meddling kids lol. I just put it on temporarily so I can see how it will look. I have more filing to do and no its the same size across as my p bass neck its not any fatter.
