I just joined the forum, thanks for adding me.
I've been a musician for almost 50 years. Started with classical violin, then around the age of 13 I simultaneously got into acoustic guitar, bluegrass fiddle and electric bass guitar.
Played in orchestras, jazz bands, rock bands then joined the USN in the early 80's so didn't do a lot with music for a few years. I always kept up on acoustic guitar though.
About 20 years ago I moved to my current home and started informal neighborhood picking get togethers. Then I accidentally got into mandolin and jumped in with a vengeance. Since then I've been going to a lot more jams and festivals, sat in with a few local bands, contributed to a few albums, got a few local gigs, etc.
I really enjoy playing with people a lot more than playing for people (despite the dozens of dollars I've made). Like many others know there is often no bass player at jams and song circles.
So I just started renting an Eastman double bass and watching YouTube tutorials. Went to my folk/blues/old country/bluegrass song circle the other night with the bass and it went real well. For now it's what I'm focusing on.
I don't want to be the irritating newbie so I'll mostly lurk, search and learn for now. Thanks!
