New Origin Effects DCX Bass

I bought an Origin Effects grey knob kit and swapped them for better visibility.

The DCX in OD mode into my SansAmp BDDI V2 is a wonderful bass sound. Cali76 at the front to even it all out. Love it. It also sounds amazing in EQ mode too though. An all-round fantastic pedal.

(I also have a BassRig SV but I A/B’d it with the SansAmp at last practice and I prefered the fullness of the SansAmp.

Sansamp BDDI V2 is next on my purchase list as I wanna use it for FOH and for playing/recording at home. Glad to hear that it pairs nicely with DCX!

(I also have a BassRig SV but I A/B’d it with the SansAmp at last practice and I prefered the fullness of the SansAmp. I remember writing a while ago that the SansAmp was hard to tame and that the BassRig sat better in the mix. It’s still kinda true but with the right settings, the SansAmp takes me closer to what I want to achieve with my band. The BassRig is no slouch and sounds great but I always go back to the SansAmp, for some reason. It’s hard to get away from that sound for me :) . As soon as I’ve finished recording my band’s EP with the BassRig -already done half of it with it- I’ll probably sell it. Wonderful preamp, but redundant for me.)

Quoting myself to repeat that the DCX does wonders to my bass sound. It adds that magic sauce on top, some grit, punch... Love it.

Would running high quality dirt into the DCX redundant? I have Lusithand Ground & Pound that I love for my main grit. I've been questioning if the adaptive EQ mode might take away some of the zing. I haven't had good luck with preamps in front of the GnP as it has the 2:1 clean blend that seems to really want a *clean* signal to make its magic.

All of my dirt that doesn’t come from the DCX is after it. SBM -> T-16 -> DCX and then on down the line with dirt, RFE, Z5LR, Msgr jr on my medium (most used) board.

Only way to know for sure if it'll do what you want it to is to try it. With that said, IME the DCX is magic when being pushed by other preamps/dirt. It's also magic driving into other preamps/dirt. That's where I think it really shines.

We're practically neighbors & have done deals before... Hit me up and I'll loan you one of mine.

Just got a DCX and really enjoying it as an always on edge of breakup tone shaper.

1. I wanted to add how well it works with pick playing. If you want grit on the attack with clean sustain it does that perfectly.

2. It works with flats better than other drives I’ve tried. Flats and drive have been hard to match for me. Most drives are mid boost so you lose the vibe of flats by the time you get breakup. But haven’t noticed this with the dcx. The LF boost helps compensate without getting too boomy.

The DCX Black Edition knobs don’t provide a contrast (just see more black) in the cut/sliced notch, which extends the entire depth of the knob. There’s no flat surface (looking down from the top) in the indicator channel, to use painter’s tape or white-out.

Seeing how the top plate has double silver lines around it, I used a metallic silver (fine tip) Sharpie marker to create a similar double line indicator. By dragging the marker tip across the top of the groove, it adds a little paint on the groove edges. (Btw, bbq charcoal lighter fluid will erase it, if needed…)

It's been a while since the last time I used my DCX and I was thinking about selling it. However, I needed an overdrive for a project and I was thinking about getting a Darkglass microtubes. Luckily, I tried the DCX before buying in its overdrive mode (I had only used it as a preamp). Man, this pedal, drive at 3 and in the Dark setting is a winner. Best overdrive I have tried. I am keeping it.

Made a video about the DCX. You can watch it here

Great demo! Your edge of breakup settings are identical to mine, even the minimal EQ tweaks. Sounds rad.

I noticed that most the settings in the manual are a little too drastic for live, especially regarding the bass knob. But the ones you demo here are perfect for gigging. Very helpful!

Thanks! A little bit of boost definitely goes a long way. Especially live, as you mentioned :)
