Dave, "less bright' isn't how I'd describe it, but you could. I'd say less "ping-y" ... 'deeper' maybe? They feel the same in terms of tension, but just have more beef to the sound. Maybe you could describe it as the fundamental and lower overtones pop more or something. I think its probably a 'depends on the bass' situation, but on mine it was similar to the differences between Spiro Weich and Mitt, but without the bright temporary 'banjo-bass' effect as they settle. They both bow similarly to me, though, but I'm inexperienced and still figuring all that out....
