New Show Your Jazz!!

I've been trying to track down this jazz...
1983, beige, white pick guard, rosewood, de-fretted, "custom shop" style fender script bridge, duncan livewire pups..
...had 3 ***'s at the end of the serial #..
I know this isn't milk carton, but have you seen her??

why did you do that? how do you like it now?

well, i originally bought it as a backup to my 77'Ray that i ended up having to sell due to financial problems a little while back. and since i've always preferred a jazz neck anyway(and pretty much have to use one now due to a recent injury with my left hand), and had also been considering ordering either a USACG
or Warmoth body with MM p/u route i decided that the marcus would work just as well, and already had a "usable" pre-amp installed and just had to switch the bridge p/u's volume pot to
a 500k and replaced the "active/passive" switch with a 3-way mini-toggle for parallel/single/series with the MM p/u.
it did take a little tweaking on my amps EQ(with the MM in
series, the sound's ALOT fuller than before, alot more in the mid section).
with the MM p/u a little closer to the bridge than a standard
'Ray the sound from it's a little tighter and more focused than usual, but by adding in the neck p/u it balances it out. and
using the MM in either single coil or parallel(not much difference in sound between the two) with the neck, it sounds very
close to the original marcus sound.
point is, if you like Laklands or Bongo's, it's very similar.

Yeah it's still around. In fact his son Felix plays it around in Miami.
Not exactly true.. The Bass of Doom (SN 64437) was left by Jaco in Central Park, NYC and hasn't been seen since...
Felix is playing a '72 Fender Jazzbass that he bought at Rudy's in N.Y.
There's a lot of Jaco's basses that are 'lost':
The '62 Bass of Doom, a '60 (SN 57308) which was his main fretted and can be seen on the Shadows & Light DVD with Joni Mitchell, another '60 (SN 82429)......
my source: Bassplayer magazine January 2002...

Beautiful basses. I really like yours GrooveMonkey.

Here are my babies, if you haven't seen these pics before:

1984 Fender MIA (I think it was actually a reissue itself back then):

I love the fretboard on this bass. This picture of it with no strings is right after I cleaned the FB.

Here's the same bass before I changed it to the more vintage look:

And I'm leaving the pictures of my P-bass out :P

I remember seeing this bass on eBay about two years ago. If I remember correctly, the seller was somewhere in NY state. It was up for auction for about a day and then the seller pulled it. Anyoen else rememebr this?
