I have been playing for 18 years and have never felt the need to have an active preamp.
Sire finally makes something for me
I am glad that Sire is expanding their range again. Something for everyone, I personally never use the passive feature of my Sire but it sounds great. Those passive only bassist should really enjoy this bass.
I’d take one of these over the new Classic Vibes in a heartbeat .

Great Basses for build and quality but I’ve never played one that wasn’t heavier than a boat anchor.
The roasting process might lower the body weight a tad, but I’d still bet on it being heavier than alder and swamp ash. I’d bet it has killer tone though. Very attractive instrument.
The Sire basses I have played punch well above their weight.
I played a Sire and it was nice. I just wish the logo on the headstock was only the Sire logo without the big MARCUS MILLER stamped on it. I don’t know why, but it seriously bugs me.

I think I would use it in home studio only, so the weight is not a problem. But I would consider how much it weighs when playing weddings

There seems to be some confusion as to what material the body is, possibly based on preliminary info? Or then they really have two versions... Sire-USA website mentions Roasted Maple body but some online stores list it as Alder. EDIT: Seems pretty much everyone advertises alder. Maybe Sire-USA is the one that has an error on their website? Alder would seem the more likely anyway, it's just that I somehow expected their own site to have the best info

Like MF listing a passive Jazz as a Deluxe...and while the actual bass has an ash body, they list it as Alder in the Specs.

These will probably be big sellers. If I didn’t just get me Geddy Lee USA I would have one of these on the way.

The one thing I'm concerned about is the weight. UPS claims it weighs 18lb. Hoping that's 10lb of packing material.
