The one thing I'm concerned about is the weight. UPS claims it weighs 18lb. Hoping that's 10lb of packing material.

Oh, that's good. I don't think my back could take 48lb. My third new bass ever, and #2 is over 10 years old.

I recently traded away my 1st gen v7 5 string......a buddy of mine just got a 2nd gen P7 5 and I have got to spend a good amount of time with it. I know they are two different models but the difference was night and day to me. Now these new v5 models have caught my eye. I like the roasted neck stuff and I don't mind the body on the natural one. I never ended up really using the preamp on mine so I could be fine without it. A very nice price point too. Gotta start finding ways to convince the Mrs that I need a Sire again!

My USATK is close to 10lbs, I think it’s extremely heavy already.
If The V5 hard maple body weight 10 to 12lbs, I’ll pass for sure.

That’s the new limited Edition Northern Ash ‘78 model with the extra coat of black polyurethane , Bad Ass Bridge , leaded pickup and bridge covers. 18 lbs. even.

Just got home to unwrap it. It is about the same weight as my Peavey Milestone, but the rounded neck handles better and it "feels" lighter when playing. Was tuned D G# C# F# out of the box. Back of neck is silky smooth satin. A bit chunkier at the headstock than the Peavey, but just noticibly. Setup and intonation are good. Will still want my strings on it and lowered a bit. Nut is cut perfect. I don't like the grooved saddles, will change that soon. Sounds great. Pictures soon.

I lowered the action, have a set of flats waiting to go on, black hardware coming and roasted maple to make a finger ramp. I love it.

Wow, beautiful one, V5 4 strings are already sold out on the Sire site except the sunburst... the 5 strings is still here.

I was curious about the odd fact that only Sire USA advertised the body material as roasted maple while everyone else seemed to think it was alder. Sire also claims it to be slightly lighter (than other Sire's I imagined) while people have shown clear doubts if the body was indeed Maple.

So on Saturday I asked them about body material and weight. And here is the relevant part from Sire USA customer service who replied to me by email last night my time:

"Sorry for the misinformation. Unfortunately seems like our website specs description was wrong. It is an alder body and not roasted hard maple.

I've sent this information to our web development team so they can fix the the description.

We have not received the weight specs yet, however the V5 4st should be lighter than the Sire V7.

Please note the guidelines for the Sire V7 4st is around 9 lbs and the Sire V7 5st around 10 lbs."

The maple top and neck inlays on the P10 are sweet. I'd get a P10 too, if I had the budget. My V5 was set up to textbook J bass specs, D'ad 105s installed. Totally agree with the opinion on Fender. Thanks for sharing!
