New Sire P Basses!

There are men who like these necks. Then women and kids are the next best fit for them. Nothing about calling anyone, anything. They are thinner and fit more of the population. That's why they make them this way. No other reason. Meanwhile, P bass players get shafted.
Exactly how have you been "shafted"?! Sire made a business decision and ran with it. Despite knowing nothing about what went on during that decision process, I'd confidently bet my house that at no point during the design of the instruments did they even discuss the shafting of anybody, let alone end up making a conscious decision to actually implement a "shafting" plan.

I only play five-strings but I didn't see a 5-srting PJ there. Would I say Sire shafted me and other five-string players? Of course not. It would be ridiculous to make that kind of statement.

I don't know where you both live but my cell never loses signal all over Texas. My computer functions are fast and smooth. My laptop hasn't been turned on in months. Smartphones are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well along side active electronics on a P bass:smug:
We have hills here in central upstate NY that most parts of Texas do not.

I wonder if these will be lighter than the boat anchor jazz basses.
In the interests of full disclosure...

...that tend to weigh exactly the same as their Fender counterparts, and which have been lightened substantially by their internal wood selection process...

Just because something is newfangled and popular doesn't mean it's better for everyone.

Take smartphones for example. Cellular phones are great, but when you try to combine it with a fully functional computer you end up with the worst of both worlds. You get a phone with short battery life and prone to computer viruses or other technical complications which could potentially leave you stranded without communication. And you end up with a computer with limited memory and processing and a tiny screen. Most of the highly educated and intelligent folks I know prefer dumb phones and quality tablets or laptops.

At home I still have a landline and a big heavy lump of plastic with a dial on it for a phone and I love it.

PCs are better than smartphones because they have more options than a clumsy, limited device. Much like a PJ with active electronics has more options than a clumsy, limited standard P.
BOOM!

I don't mind most of the limits of a smartphone all that much, the big problem for me is input, unless I can plug in an actual physical keyboard, typing is just tedious. Haven't learned to phone type with my thumbs, and never will (likely for the same reason I can't slap - my thumbs just don't work that way).

It looks nice. The neck isn't as big an issue, but I have grown to prefer a P width nut recently. Also, I personally prefer a jazz body with PJ pickups. Too many knobs for me, but the pre-amp on these seems to be well liked by a lot of folks.

I'm sure they'll sell well, I'd love to play a Sire to see if they live up to the hype.

and you may get that opportunity soon, with them delving into the retail dealers market.
