New Sire P Basses!

So, this sucks for P bass players. Apparently, this brand is centered around the entire bass playing world who play jazz basses and their necks. They must want the woman and child market so bad that they will keep the thinner neck at all costs.
I'm thinking it's bias coming from MM himself. He does play Jazz basses, after all. But I agree, a bit of variance would be good, even if only to test out the market.

Not to be pedantic (but I'll go with what I know ;)), I would describe 1.5" (J) vs 1.75" (P) as narrower rather than thinner. Thinner would be front to back measurement (thickness), and differentiate between regular and baseball bat (C vs D vs U shape).

you're welcome

One comment on the bass - the volume knob looks to be pretty close to the bottom of the pickup. I know with some instruments I've had issues with my right hand whacking the knob when they're too tight with the bottom of the pickup. Lots of variables on that though. I'm a PJ fan so I applaud this model.

They look good, but the thread title is a little misleading. I see 6 P/J's and a Jazz - no P's.

I can't wait till they make a short scale for all the women and children.

The only reason I named the thread that was because of Sire's original Facebook post.
I didn't want to deviate too far from the tone they were setting.

So, apparently there is a lot going on with Sire, in addition to the new PJ, that I haven't kept up on (some of this news just released today though) :

1) Price increase -- aprox. $50 for V7 Alder/rosewood. Other models will have proportional increases. Starts Feb 1st, I believe. Buy now!

2) They are going to have dealers-- you can try/buy -- not just internet orders.

3) A Sire drum set (in addition to the new Sire mic that I was aware of previously).

I am outraged! Why can't things never change?

Wow. I was in the market for just one more bass, but it looks like that just changed. If there's a blue quilted maple jazz bass, I'll order one tomorrow. But between the new blue M3, PJ bass and quilted maple jazz, I don't know which one I'll get. Crazy.

Personally, my hands and a pbass neck don't go hand in hand... so a PJ bass with Jazz neck would be perfect for me, but I don't really care for the colors they offer. Hoping for like a sonic blue or surf green.

The acoustic guitar is coming this year, too. Got my eye on that. What they're attempting is really rather aggressive and not without risk. We'll see. Sad to see the price increase, but materials costs haven't been going down the last few years, so I get it.

I agree with you on the volume knob, looks really close to the pickup, but maybe the angle of the picture makes it look clos

First, why we are spending so much time in this thread discussing smart phones...

My bad. I started it. I tried to illustrate a point with an analogy and derailed the whole dang thread.

Mistakes were made, lives were lost. It's very sad, but we need to move on as a nation now and not let evil triumph over our love of P-basses.

For they might add knobs, and install batteries. And they may take our nut width, but they'll never have our freedom!

Vive le TORT!!!

View attachment 1034525 It was just a matter of time. And space. Boldly going where Fender has gone before. Not that that's a bad thing.
Rather different than where Fender has gone, actually. Fender has nothing like this preamp in any $1K bass that I'm aware of.
