I was playing my Saturn VI last night again and I always seem to gravitate towards it over my other stuff for light overdrive. I'd love to compare them.

New SolidGoldFX Beta V Bass Preamp Pedal

I was playing my Saturn VI last night again and I always seem to gravitate towards it over my other stuff for light overdrive. I'd love to compare them.
The way the video (briefly) describes the LPF knob, it sounds more like a pre-gain HPF, affecting the amount of lows getting into the drive circuit. How the switch relates to the knob, or if it does, is a total mystery to me. No manual on the SolidGoldFX site yet, BETA-V
Hi guys, thanks for the interest! Just to clear up the questions about the LPF, it is the classic passive Beta tone control on the output of the pedal. The new version has 2 settings plus a center bypass that removes it completely from the circuit. The setting 2 is a heavier filter cutting high and scooping mids at the same time while setting one is cuts at a higher frequency giving it a mid bumped feel as you cut the highs.
The LPF does not bypass any bass from the drive circuit. The active EQ/Body control can remove or increase lows no problem.

I love my Beta but right now my Blueberry does the job a little bit better. But this demo seems to tell me that this pedal can do that darker and mildly overdriven tone very well. This is tempting, I wonder if it could knock the Blueberry off the board and into a backup role....

I had a beta and beta mkii but found both were too dark. This might be the perfect evolution
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me wont get fooled again. Never had a Beta that sounded anything other than someone threw a wet blanket over my tone.
Interesting, I got a different impression from the demo video.
We'll sound is relative. I sound the sound of the beta excellent.
I'm just thinking I'm very tempted by this pedal. But I hate the prospect of giving up my saturn VI. I'm wondering how would something like the mxr bass pre amp in front give we more controll of the mids to drive distortion a bit..anyone uses such a pre amp before any distortion?

Wonder why Solidgold FX never released a version withsimple well voiced 3 band EQ added to the original volume , tone and gain knobs.

I already got four Beta’s. Love the original orange with cream and germanium version better than the MKII and DLX versions. I use mainly the original with the gain almost off for a little more ‘Motownish’ sound and the germanium for heavier sounds. I still have doubts about the Beta-V version. Somehow it sounds less dark and muddy than the original versions.
I pulled the trigger on this one after watching a youtube and thought this could be exactly what I was looking for as I wanted a preamp. And I love it, it will be my always on. I actually compared it to the Darkglass Ultra Vintage and the Tech 21 VT Di - and there was really no doubt which I would keep.
Our guitarplayer, who is a soundfreak, was just nodding with a smile. I played it with my Ampeg SVT3 pro, 2 DB 112 and my Pino, you can really dial in the basic soundcharacter of an Ampeg easily. The Beta is more a lowgain pedal and brings a darker tubey tone and lets you add some grind or a moderate overdrive. Nothing steals your lows, highs or midsts. In fact it just makes everything sound better, fresher, no matter what drive, bit clearer and cuts through when paying with the fullband, we have 2 guitarplayers. It still keeps the darker, warm sound - but of course you can go for more bite, if you want that. I pulled it on/off during the session, and you clearly want to keep it on. I must not habe the LPF though, but it is a nice treat for sure.
