NEW Squier Telecaster Bass!

I just sent my humbucker to the Seymour Duncan custom shop for a total rewind and I put the Duncan stkj2b humbucker in the bridge. Ill report my findings when I get the HB back from the custom shop.
I... might... It kind of depends on what color I decide to repaint my TB when it arrives. I'll keep you posted, but obviously, if one comes along between now and then, go for it.

For those of you who swapped out the bridge and pickups?????
The neck is close to 1/8" narrower at the pocket than the standard 2.5" long scale neck pocket. Does this affect the optimum pickup pole location if you swap it out? In other words, have the original pickup poles been modified and moved slightly to accommodate the thinner neck and slightly closer string spacing? Or are the pickup poles in the original "Duncan Designed" single coil in the same location as the Fender and third party standard long scale pickups?
Does the standard scale bridge replacement you use affect the string spacing? Or did you pick up a bridge like the Schaller with which you can adjust the string spacing?

Now that some of you have these and have played them for a while, do you think a forearm contour would be worth having? When I get my gutted TB I'll be repainting it anyway, and I am wondering if it's worth it to cut a contour while I'm at it.

The lack of the forearm contour is no problem for me at all. The bass is really comfortable, no neck dive or dead spots to be found. The bass isn't any shorter in overall length than a 34" scale bass. There is more distance behind the bridge to the edge of the body which makes sense since it is 32" scale.
No spacing problems with the Duncan stkj2 bridge pickup. The bridge is a standard 4 string so the bridge pickup spacing is no issue. Now, the neck pickup is a different story. It does not perfectly align under the strings but it is not enough of an issue to matter. It doesn't affect the sound.

Wonder what is going on?
Just checked out the Duncan standard 51 single coil - one on one - with the Duncan that comes standard on the single pickup Squier Tele Bass. I mean one on one as in right next to each other.
Bad news is that the pickup poles aren't even close, The poles on the Squire Tele bass are MUCH closer than the standard Duncans as far as the string spacing goes, and with the narrower neck, all is the way it should be.
Just wondering how you Squire Tele brothers are making out with those out of alignment pickup poles on the new pickups? Maybe it is a wash - higher quality pickup, but desperately out of alignment pickup poles - but the string placement still equals better, fuller sound? Sorry, hard to believe.
Let's hear from you what the truth really is! Maybe those bridges - which also make the string spacing slightly wider - help align the pickup poles?

I would ultimately think that the new wider string spacing bridge/new wider pickup pole pickups would force the g and e strings out - way too close to the edge of the neck, but perhaps not. Again. let us hear from you about this issue. Just looking at the photo above and the E string looks dangerously close to the netherworld - as far as the fingerboard goes.
Just my two cents - please comment as you see fit.

I am contemplating putting a split-humbucking P-bass pickup in the "Sweet spot"--can you see any reason why that wouldn't work?
I put in a Fralin split coil '51 in my VM Tele and pole pieces did NOT line up. That's the truth of it-decided to stick with orig. After trying the Fralin anyway I decided the Squier Duncan sounded a gazillion times better. Waaay beefier, fuller and overall more delicious. An expensive experiment.
Well, I wish I could tell you the weight but I just bought a disassembled one and so I can't really say what the collected weight is, seeing as it's missing a few pieces.
..Speaking of which, could anyone tell me if the chrome control plates are the same size for all of these Tele-style basses? I need to get one for this thing, and I don't want to to get one that's off by a 1/4" or something? Or, better yet, would someone who has one be so kind as to measure it and give me the dimensions? It would be helpful to know metric AND standard because there is an EBay vendor selling one with dimensions listed in mm.

The four listed on Sweetwater range between 9 lb 3 oz and 10 lbs even. That was just the single pickup white ones that they have in stock. Didn't check other versions but you can see for yourself.
So, I have received my gutless wonder, the Tele-bass Special with no electronics or cover plate, and I have had a very difficult time locating a replacement humbucker neck pickup. So, in my idle musing, I came up with the idea below. What do you guys think? Setting aside the difficulties involved in filling in old holes, making new ones, etc., how do you think it would sound? I'm imagining two fairly hot P-bass pickups (like SD PB3s, I guess?) with a blend knob or just a basic pickup selector switch. The color, BTW, will be Duplicolor Red Metal Specks.
A couple of shots trying to show how well the OE pickup pole pieces line up and how close E and G strings are to edge of the fretboard with a Wilkinson four barrel bridge installed. The E and G strings have plenty of room and are not to close to the edge of the fretboard. The A and D strings line up with the pole pieces nicely but the E and G are at the outside edge of the magnets.
So does that have much of an adverse effect on the sound? Is there significantly less responsiveness?
