I'd want to test drive the stingray too, just in case it turns out to be more appealing to you. But it's a plus that you liked the Fender, you know already at least one of the two basses works for you.

Does anyone know what the story on the pickup in the Flea bass is? Is it Fender's version of a Lane Poor?
It is a Fender Tim Shaw designed humbucker pickup and a Aguilar 18v preamp.

Sorry I kinda fell in love. Got it for 1,100 after trading in my SVT 7 pro.

I went to GC last week to buy one of the new Stingrays. They only had a 4h with ebony board and a 4HH with maple in stock. The 4 H must have had some fingerboard shrinkage because the fretends were exposed enough to get a nail under up and down the neck. The 4HH had much better fretwork but it just didn’t do it for me. Ordered the Flea in silver from Sweetwater and hoped for the best. Turned out to be a great decision. While I get people worrying about the satin finish, it feels incredibly comfortable to play. Aguilar preamp pairs very well with the pickup and neck feels great too. I don’t want to bag on the Stingray, cool upgrades and awesome colors but just didn’t work for me. To each their own but I went in with the intent of buying the Stingray and ended up with the Flea and have zero regrets.

That is great news! Thanks for the heads up, I have a buddy that works there and when I went to price one out he pulled up the coupon and said that EBMM was one of the companies on their list of vendors that wouldn't participate. But I will definitely go a step higher and reach out to a manager about it. I didn't really pursue it to the fullest as I have been going back and forth whether or not to keep my spector mm.

No problem. Keep in mind I called the national number - like you would pull off the GC catalogue-not my local store. Maybe that’s the difference?

Good luck!
